Quote:
The Grudge 2 is the 2006 sequel to the 2004 American horror film remake The Grudge. The Grudge 2 is the second film in Sony's The Grudge series and is directed by Takashi Shimizu (director of the original series) and written by Stephen Susco. The film is produced by Sam Raimi and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Amber Tamblyn, Arielle Kebbel, Jenna Dewan, and Edison Chen. As stated by Takashi Shimizu the film is not a remake of Ju-on: The Grudge 2 and does follow a different storyline.

The film was released in North America on October 13 after being pushed forward a week from the original October 20 release date. The film was released in United Kingdom on October 20 and in Australia on October 26, 2006.

The Grudge 2
C-

Meh. Still not scary. Amber Tamblyn's the best person in the film, but after all the time periods and plot threads come together, you realize she had no purpose being involved in this film's story (nor did Sarah Michelle Gellar). It's basically about three badly-acted high school girls entering the house and the consequences of that (including many cuts to Chicago, IL, presumably taking place months later). Tamblyn hangs out with an Asian guy, uncovers something about Kayako's past that has nothing to do with anything... and that's it.

There were some boos from the crowd at last night's screening. The film's biggest sin is that it's simply boring.

Your grade was all too generous for a movie that was basically boring plus eliciting booing from the crowd.. I would distinguish this as being awful from the description of your review..

A horrible movie. The closing part in Tokyo is a rehash of the first movie with a slight change. The Chicago part of the movie is utterly unwarranted and just filler for another' sic' sequel. Deserved all the boos it got at the end.

Yes and it is very rare to hear boos at a free advance screening.

Indeed. If When A Stranger Calls got the audience scared, I seriously doubt they'll be that disappointed here.

That doesn't mean they will be good films, or even noticed by more than six people.

How is Sarah Michelle Gellar "over" as an actress? She has three $100 million hits (Scream 2, Scooby Doo, The Grudge), two $70 million hits (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scooby Doo 2), and a cult hit of sorts with Cruel Intentions. That just leaves Harvard Man and the flop Simply Irresistible.

Now, one can make the argument that none of these movies relied on Gellar as a bankable name to make money. If that's the case, then Gellar was never a big actress to begin with. In order to be "over", you have to have a period of being a money-making actor or actress.

I doubt, if The Grudge 2 failed at the box office, it would be blamed on Gellar, considering her apparent 5 minutes of screen time.

All of those movies (minus The Grudge), came out over four years ago.

She's "over" because the teen bubble that she was ridding burst a few years ago, and other than The Grudge, has had ZERO hit films since.

That obviously has nothing to do with the fact she hasnt had a movie come out since Grudge, right?

Yeah, it sucked hard. Every single scare was ridiculously telegraphed, and only two had any impact on me at all. I really liked the first Grudge, but this (like many of these films) is a mess. D+

I'd like to go on the record that in the numerous arguments I've had lately about this film, none of them were for the film being any good. Man though, if Saw III is a bust, what a dissapointing month this'll be for horror movie fans. Sequels to three of the most sucessful horror movies in the past few years and they're all retreads with the same product, only more poorly made.
