Quote:
The Count of Monte Cristo is a 2002 romantic adventure film directed by Kevin Reynolds. The film is the tenth adaptation of the book of the same name by Alexandre Dumas, père and stars Richard Harris, James Caviezel, Dagmara Dominczyk, Guy Pearce, and Luis Guzman. It follows the general plot of the novel (the main storyline of imprisonment and revenge is preserved); but many aspects, including the relationships between major characters and the ending, have been changed, simplified, or removed; and action scenes have been added. The character of Sultan Ali Pasha's daughter Haydée, with whom Edmond forms a bond in the novel, is missing from this version. The movie met with modest box office success.

Almost nothing like the novel, but how exactly do you translate a 1200 page book to a 2 hour movie without changing it dramatically?

A very solid revenge movie!

You can count on... The Count of Monte Cristo!

The classic melodramatic story done up right by Hollywood... for a change!

Richly visualized and essentially true to Dumas' story, I really enjoyed this one. Jim Caviezel did a fine job, as always, portraying Edmond Dantes through all his trials and tribulations - I enjoyed his work in Frequency and Angel Eyes, before he went over the edge in TPOTC.

5 out of 5.

(PS: Just because you've seen this 2002 adaptation, don't skip the classic 1934 version starring Robert Donat, nor skip reading the epic (unabridged(!)) Alexandre Dumas' novel...)

I love this movie and imo it is one of the few times, someone adapts a book and changes it completely and still creates a beautiful Film...

I haven't seen this in a long while but I remember it being a bit of a bore. Definitely not as fun as it should have been.
