Rabbit-Proof Fence
Rabbit-Proof FenceQuote: Rabbit-Proof Fence is a 2002 Australian drama film directed by Phillip Noyce based on the book Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence by Doris Pilkington Garimara. It is based on a true story concerning the author's mother, as well as two other mixed-race Aboriginal girls, who ran away from the Moore River Native Settlement, north of Perth, to return to their Aboriginal families, after having been placed there in 1931. The film follows the girls as they walk for nine weeks along 1,500 miles (2,400 km) of the Australian rabbit-proof fence to return to their community at Jigalong, while being pursued by a white authority figure and an Aboriginal tracker.
The soundtrack to the film, called Long Walk Home: Music from the Rabbit-Proof Fence, is by Peter Gabriel. British producer Jeremy Thomas, who has a long connection with Australia, executive-produced the film, selling it internationally through his sales arm, HanWay Films.

Solid foreign flick, it's no City of God or anything, but I enjoyed it. The ending touches were nice, with the real people.

Considering how emotional the actual story is, the movie comes across very hollow and rather "cold". The performances are solid all-around, especially by the girls, but the film just feels more distant than it should. Too bad considering how poignant the story is.

I saw it some time ago and liked it enough, but don't remember a single thing about it. What does that tell you?

Re: Rabbit-Proof Fence
I watched this last week in my film history class and I really am not sure why because after watching this I don't see how this any impact on film history and the fact tat it is the first time I have heard it also speaks to its impact.
Outside of Branagh, the entire thing just frustrated me. The three kids just acted like kids and there was no sense of development in these characters along the way. It got tiresome to see them just act rude essentially to anyone they ran into and then Noyce trying to throw in forced emotion (such as the scene where they are taken and when Gracie is re-captured) that end up being failed, and sometimes laughable, attempts at sympathy. Just a really bad film.
