Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Ace Ventura: Pet DetectiveQuote: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is a 1994 American comedy film directed by Tom Shadyac and starring Jim Carrey. It co-stars Courteney Cox, Tone Loc, and Sean Young among others. Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino also portrays himself in a major role. Though this was Carrey's 14th film role, it is considered to be the one that launched his successful film career.
It also did very well in the Box office, grossing over $410 million worldwide, with a budget of $11 million. Because of that, it went on for a sequel, titled Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, and an animated series, which went on for 3 seasons. Hilarious. Seen it like a million times and it never fails.

Hated it.
I didn't really "get" Jim Carrey for a while but then I thought Dumb & Dumber and The Mask were funny when I finally saw them.
I hated both Ace Ventura movies, though.

One of my favorite comedies and Jim Carrey performances EVER. I always die of laughing watching this. Never gets old. Utterly hilarious, Carrey should've got an Oscar nom just for this.

Re: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
It is moderately entertaining as a 12 year old boy who still finds potty jokes and Carrey's overacting hilarious, however looking back upon it, the film seems very immature and vapid. Not awful to the standards of many modern comedies, simply mediocre to its' very core.

And god said, let there be Jim Carrey. And he appeared from television into a comedy legend. Not as good as Dumb and Dumber (Few films are) but very funny compared to The Mask and Liar Liar. It holds up well, and I still crack up the Crying Game sequence in the bathroom.

Re: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
I have not seen this movie in years, but it goes along with the several other comedies from the mid-90s that were amongst my all time favorite films when I was 12. Those films include:
Happy Gilmore Billy Madison The Waterboy Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls Dumb and Dumber
and probably a few more I can't remember
