8 femmes [8 Women]
8 WomenQuote: 8 Women (Original French title: 8 femmes) is a 2002 French musical comedy murder-mystery film, directed by François Ozon and based on the play by Robert Thomas. The film was known as 8 femmes to distinguish it from the 1972 play entitled Huit femmes

It has an excellent all-star French cast - Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Fanny Ardant, Virginie Ledoyen, Ludivine Sagnier, Emmanuelle Béart. Can't get much better than that, can it? The cast plays off each other amazingly well in this Hitchhockean story. Now the weird choice of making this a musical with, uhh, eight musical numbers (obviously one by each of the actresses) is hit/miss. A couple of the musical numbers are great (Sagnier's, Ledoyen's, Deneuve's), but the rest is very mediocre or even bad. It'd have better off playing it straight. Still, it is enjoyable, and the first musical number is very good. It's a light film mostly.. The cast is good, but Isabelle Huppert is the one who steals the show here. Great performance.

Re: 8 Women
7/10 -> B-
I wanted to see this one for a long time. But I forgot about it. I was reminded by Bradley's thread about musicals in the last decade.
I really don't see why this is a musical. Musical numbers drag the film down and all of the songs are awful. There are a few that could've been good. Also unlike in "real" musicals there is too much time between the songs. The movie plays completely straightforward and then suddely, without any need, jumps into bad songs that seem to be choreographed and practiced in 10 minutes.
But, the movie is charming, fun and hilariously predictable but in a way any Agatha Christie fan would enjoy, so that's not a bad thing.

Re: 8 Women
I thought it was pretty good. One musical number sticks out in my mind. Can't remember the name of it, but Sagnier was involved.
