Quote:
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, or simply Anchorman, is a 2004 American comedy film, directed by Adam McKay and starring Will Ferrell. The film, which was also written by Ferrell and McKay, is a tongue-in-cheek take on the culture of the 1970s, particularly the then-new Action News format. It portrays a San Diego TV station where Ferrell's title character clashes with his new female counterpart (Christina Applegate). This film is number 100 on Bravo's 100 funniest movies, and 113 on Empire's 500 Greatest Movies of All Time.

The film made $28.4 million in its opening weekend, and $89.3 million worldwide in its total theatrical run. A companion film assembled from outtakes and abandoned subplots, titled Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie, was released straight-to-DVD in late 2004. In May 2008, it was confirmed that a sequel to Anchorman was in the planning stages, but in April 2010, it was announced that the sequel had been scrapped.

One of my top five favorite comedies ever. It's the film to watch when you're bored and in need of a good laugh. And, all the joke in the film never get old. It's the most quotable movie ever created.

"You are a smelly pirate hooker!"

This movie had its moments, but overall it was a huge disappointment. I expected it to be much more funnier than it was. Will Ferrell is just so annoying, and the only standout here is Christina Applegate. I found a lot of the movie to be lame, especially the talking dog, and bear, and the performance in the Jazz Night Club. It was just missing so many opportunities to be good, and it failed to deliver.

I honestly thought it was freaking hillarious. The whole cast is pretty good as well.

Astonishingly hillarious. I enjoyed myself more at this movie than I did at almost anything else this year. It's just so weirdly bizzare. A-

One of the few times I've ever been in tears from laughing in theaters, and I hadn't had drank anything beforehand! :) Brick Tamland would've stole the show if it wasn't so funny already. As a film, it's shoddily edited, but who cares when it's this hillarious? A-

Pretty decent. Lots of jokes fall flat, but some are pretty good. Only one or two "classic" lines. I loved the random, almost bipolar feel to the movie. Very insane and inane.

Probably a B flick.

It didn't particularly hold up in repeat viewings, but when I see something funny... I REALLY laugh out loud.

I would give it an F, but that really wouldn't be fair since I didn't watch the whole thing. Nearly every scene was just inappropiate and crude, and it offended me. I only watched like 20 minutes of it, then shut it off.

Hilarious beyond words. Will Ferell just has that certain something that makes you laugh even if he didn't say anything funny. Definitley the funniest movie of 2004.

Uhmm..it was ok. I just feel that there could have been more. Some good scenes (sorry folks I found the dogkick one of the best) and that was it. Ok but I did hope for some more

6/10

My original review from theatrical release:

Really funny movie this one - my viewing partner, myself, and most of the audience were laughing so hard that you couldn't hear all of the lines delivered by the actors - esp. the guy from "The Daily Show" who plays the weatherman here - he just had to look like he was about to say something and the audience burst into laughter.

5 out of 5.

Definately one of the most random films. There were some great moments, but its not the best Frat Pack film.

What a tough movie to review. For me, it's tough to give an unbiased opinion because I'm a huge fan of Ferrell, and I've probably seen this film a solid ten times. To me, the first time you watch the film it isn't that funny. It's shoddily made, the improv could use some work, and it appears Ferrell thinks he can just talk and it will come out funny. But after two or three viewings, you catch on to subtle jokes that you didn't notice beforehand. The things Ferrell was saying that didn't seem funny at first are all of a sudden hilarious! Carrell obviously is the huge standout, and it's a shame he didn't get more screentime. Without Applegate, Ferrell, and Carrell, this movie would have fell flat on its face. It seems like one of those movies a person either gets or doesn't. There's not a lot of middle ground. I personally think Chris Parnell, in the few scenes he's in, is especially amusing, while Fred Willard gives his usual, straight-man-yet funny performance. As for the cameos, the first time I saw this I thought Stiller was hilarious, but after a couple viewings you realized it really just wasn't that funny. Luke Wilson's few jokes fall flat, but I found Tim Robbins to be an interesting addition:
"No commercials, NO MERCY!!!" Was I the only one that got a kick out of that line? Overall, I agree this could have been a better movie, but for what it is, it's very funny. The humor is off-the-wall weirdo hilarious, so those who enjoy wacky and just plain fun comedies will love it, while those looking for smart humor will be left in the dark. This is an example of where Ferrell's improv shines, and where it can succeed, as compared to his miserable turn in Kicking and Screaming, where that type of comedy just didn't work.

Overall Grade Realistically: (B+)
Cult Value: (A)

It is hands down the funniest movie of 2004, and probably of the decade so far. This is one of the few comedies I can watch and never get tired of. If it's on TV, I'll just stop and watch it. Plus it gives me another excuse for posting this picture.

Its all too much! You'd think that my obsession with some scenes in this movie would secure an A, right?
Meh. I really like it and think its funny as hell, but at the same time it felt like too much of a halfbake between parody and actual comedy to really be "brilliant"

But damn is it funny.

"Where did you get those clothes? At the toilet store?"

"I will smash your face into a car windshield, and then take your mother Dorothy Mantooth out for a nice seafood dinner and never call her again."

I will quote this film 'till the day I die.

Really funny, but not my favorite Frat Pack movie.

Still, the quotes are gold.

Possibly the funniest movie of all time. (though not my favorite comedy. It's not just about laughs).

The only problem was it's too cheesey ending.
