Anyone who likes cop thrillers in the vein of L.A. Confidential, Narc or Training Day should check this one out. Sadly it went down unnoticed at the box-office, but it is a very solid flick and I actually prefer it to the likes of Training Day and Narc. It shows that Kurt Russell still has got his talent and just needs the right role offers to display it. He got one in this film and another in Miracle. He does a really good job in this one, along with (surprisingly) Scott Speedman and Ving Rhames. The whole movie is set against the Los Angeles riots of 1992 and they fit pretty well into the story. What I liked about the film is that Kurt Russell's "protagonist" is basically a corrupt and racist cop who changes only way later on in the movie. Brendan Gleason pulls off his villain part pretty well too. The movie tends to drag in parts and the whole storyline gets a little confusing in the middle of the feature, but at the end all is resolved in a good manner. Kurt Russell's character is the only one who is dealt with with some depth, but for that he's fleshed out quite well.

Don't see the film expecting shoot-out's or flashy action. The film's got almost nothing of that. But it has got a good story, good performances and it never bores the viewer.

If DP07 hasn't seen it, he should. He'd love it.
