National Lampoon's European Vacation
National Lampoon's European VacationQuote: European Vacation (originally given the working title Vacation '2' Europe) is a 1985 comedy film. The second film in National Lampoon's Vacation film series, it was directed by Amy Heckerling and stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo. Dana Hill and Jason Lively replace Dana Barron and Anthony Michael Hall as Griswold children Audrey and Rusty. After Hall declined to reprise his role (he decided to star in Weird Science instead), producers decided to recast both children.
This, along with Hotel Hell Vacation, was the only Vacation film that did not feature Randy Quaid's "Cousin Eddie" character. Also, in European Vacation, the family's name is shown as "Griswald", though in every other film it is spelled "Griswold".

I saw it for the first time last weekend and I must say that I was definitely disappointed considering the talent involved (Heckerling and Chase). The comedic pacing is just...off. There are some pretty good jokes and funny scenes, but then there are many gags that simply fall flat and towards the end, there is just nothing except for some sentimentality. It is decent in parts, but the parts just don't fit together well. The very same day I have seen Planes, Trains and Automobiles for the first time as well and THAT was a great comedy, while this one just reeks of mediocrity. Chevy Chase is actually what saves it from being really bad.

National Lampoon's European Vacation
Eh, very similar to the first in terms of structure. I guess it's a little more interesting because it's Europe. They visit London, Stonehenge, Paris, Germany, and Rome. But the humour is rather silly (though there are some good jokes that I laughed at). There are some good scenes (basically any scene showing boobs), but overall still mediocre.

Re: National Lampoon's European Vacation
One of the weirdest things in this film is at the beginning with the gameshow host. Is he a paedophile? He snogs the Griswald's daughter, and everybody is fine with it.

Re: National Lampoon's European Vacation
It's a bizarre opening, but I think Clark is visibly pissed off by him making out with his daughter.
This film is so weird throughout, but I do laugh a lot. The first and third are just so good this is just bleh.
