Quote:
Toy Story 2 is a 1999 CGI family film, the third Disney/Pixar feature film, and the sequel to Toy Story, which features the adventures of a group of toys that come to life when humans are not around to see them. Like the first film, Toy Story 2 was produced by Pixar Animation Studios, Directed by John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich and Ash Brannon, and released by Walt Disney Pictures and Buena Vista Distribution in the United States on November 19, 1999, in some parts of Australia on December 2, 1999 and the United Kingdom on 11 February 2000. Toy Story 2 was re-released in a double feature with Toy Story in Disney Digital 3-D on October 2, 2009.

The movie keeps most of the original characters and voices from the first movie, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, Wallace Shawn, Annie Potts, John Ratzenberger, John Morris, and Laurie Metcalf. They are joined by new characters voiced by Jodi Benson, Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Estelle Harris, and Wayne Knight.

Pretty damn great animated movie. One of my personal favorites, and I'm not a big fan of kids movies. A-

This is the 2nd best animated flick I have ever seen, right behind The Lion King and depending on my mood it rivals it for the top spot. It is much superior to its predecessor and it is als by far and away the best Pixar flick I have ever seen. The animation and the voice-work are top-notch and the movie is simply hilarious, especially the "outtakes" which had me falling out of my seat in the theatre because of endless laughing.

More mature and fleshed out than the original, combining its heart with a lot more laugh-out-loud moments. The influx of witty movie references is welcome, too. The story is pretty similar to the first, but there are enough changes to make this one just as entertaining, and the return of all the old characters makes it familiar without being an all-out copy. Great voice performances from the entire cast, including the new arrivals, and lots of witty humour. The outtakes are simply hilarious. Good stuff.

This is a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful film. Even better than the first.

I almost cried when I first saw this (back in college, I guess, when it came out) during the part where the Sarah McLachlan song plays while Jessie the doll reminisces.

That song is When She Loved Me. I think it's better than the original's You Got A Friend In Me.

Love the film, but I'm one of the few who liked the first better than the second.

I've watched it around 10/15 times so far, such a great movie, much better than the first.

Pretty much the same here, but without the "almost". It's one of the most poignant scenes I've ever seen in a movie, along with Grumpy bursting into tears after Snow White's death.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Better than the first, but both are lower tier Pixar for me.
They're just not that great.
A Bug's Life is better than them.

It's not better than the first. You can kind of tell it was originally intended to go DTV, the set-up is pretty chintzy in storytelling. But when the film takes off, and especially the arc of Jesse...wow.

I'd say it ranks in the middle of Pixar, which means it's almost brilliant anyway.

I just watched the Pixar Story doc it's actually quite amazing that this film is what it is.

They literally re-wrote the entire script in one weekend. I think all they kept was the original premise of Woody getting lost and found by a collector. And then they went crazy creative with that.

In fact, I think Disney forcing Pixar to rush this really helped the studio overall. I think Pixar learned how to really become a real studio and not have a laid-back approach. Keep in mind that Toy Story is something they spent years making, and same with Bug's Life (not as long though). TS2 though they did in lightning fast time, which has allowed them IMO to churn out a film every year since 2006.

No matter what you feel about this or TS1, there is no denying that they are the two most important animated films of the past 15 years.

yes, they worked several years on Toy Story. But they also had this black friday where Disney's producers told them it was shit. And they also re-wrote the whole movie in one week or so.
And A Bug's Life's production started after Toy Story, with the same director. --> stress, too.

/\ Yeah, for individual scenes, the only competition is Monsters, Inc.'s ending.
