Quote:
Remember the Titans is a 2000 sports film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Boaz Yakin. Inspired by real events, the plot was conceived from a screenplay written by Gregory Allen Howard. The film starts as a new coach of the Titans, a football team previously coached by the white Bill Yoast, begins coaching the team. The new coach, Herman Boone (portrayed by Denzel Washington), is black, and his team is a mixture of black players and white players. The struggles that arise from the racial diversity are profound. Actor Will Patton portrays Bill Yoast, making a transition to help out Boone as an assistant coach. The portrayal of real life athletes Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell (played by Ryan Hurst and Wood Harris, respectively) appears within the integrated storyline. Kip Pardue and Kate Bosworth also star in principal roles.

A joint collective effort to commit to the film's production was made by the film studios of Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films. It was commercially distributed by Buena Vista Pictures. Remember the Titans explores civil topics, such as racism, discrimination and athletics.

Remember the Titans premiered in theaters nationwide in the United States on September 29, 2000 grossing $115,654,751 in domestic ticket receipts. It earned an additional $21,051,932 in business through international release to top out at a combined $136,706,683 in gross revenue. The film was considered a financial success due to its $30 million budget costs. Preceding its theatrical run, the film was generally met with positive critical reviews before its initial screening in cinemas.

Yeah, there was no thread for this movie.

So we watched it again last night, and I just <3 <3 <3 it. So much.

It helps that it's about a high school not more than 20 minutes away from here.

Yay!

Fantastic sports drama.

When I first saw it, I didn't like it all that much, but I watched it again tonight and it was quite excellent.

Riddled with Cliches and horrifically predictable, Denzel is about the only redeemable feature of the whole thing.

I don't care if it's not the most obvious or "best" choice, but Remember the Titans is still my favorite "inspirational sports movie."

Post "hollywooding the story'...
My alma mater is actually the team that lost... Andrew Lewis, Salem, Va... They wanted $20k to be mentioned in the picture, but were 'snubbed'..

Back to the story, that tugs at heartstrings... My HS intergrated in 1967... All schools in the state played in but one division.. A school of 500 played against a body of 2,000... ALHS was about 1,000.. When schools integrated some balloned to 5,000 students all in the 'senior/junior' grades... But not us, we mixed evenly by grade, kept the same size...For the movie, suddenly, big schools merge into one.. Already developed teams of mostly Sr.s and Jr.s, all experienced and 'big', GW had it's coaches' choice of a large and experienced roster, pick and choose; how many player's over 230 can a small school have??..... ALHS fought well, and even at it's size had previously won a few legendary state championships... But against the top draws of several much larger high schools, merged into one, we got beat... It was like the college all-stars vs. the NFL champs, over-powered.....( do they still play that game??)

The 'Hollywood' story was easy to 'peal-off' from the truth, but it's not accurate from a team-sports 'rest-of-the-story' insight.... The 'directors' were 'hollywooding'.. Their job, pull at the heartstrings, story be screwed.....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
cheers... 'the rest of the story'.....

I love this. Probably the peak of the inspirational sports movie genre. It's impossible to make a sports movie better than this.

B+

I really like it also. It's a film I can watch without ever being tired/bored/etc of. But I also hate it because it spawned 9876394798 clones.

The moment the gay character kissed that dude in the locker room in the 1960s South and wasn't immediately beaten to death I knew I was watching bullshit. From that point on, I felt talked-down to and I ultimately got nothing out of this. Not a fan.
