Galaxy Quest

Quote:
Galaxy Quest is a 1999 science-fiction comedy film about a troupe of human actors who defend a group of aliens against an alien warlord. It was directed by Dean Parisot and written by David Howard and Robert Gordon. Mark Johnson and Charles Newirth produced the film for DreamWorks, and David Newman composed the music score.

The film parodies the television series Star Trek and related phenomena. It stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, and Daryl Mitchell as the cast of a defunct television series called Galaxy Quest, in which the crew of a spaceship embarked on intergalactic adventures. Enrico Colantoni also stars as the leader of an alien race who ask the actors for help, believing the show's adventures were real. The film's supporting cast features Robin Sachs as the warlord, Patrick Breen as a friendly alien, and Justin Long in his feature-film debut as a human fan of the television show.

Portions of the film were shot in Goblin Valley State Park, Utah, USA, and non-humanoid creatures were created by Stan Winston Studio from designs by Jordu Schell. The film won the 2000 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.

So overrated. Don't see why people like it so much. I thought it was quite average.

I love this movie. It's hilarious and also manages to be touching at times.

B+

Just rewatched it yesterday. This movie is such a fun ride! It's a loveable Star Trek spoof that is better than any Star Trek movie I have ever seen in the end. The cast is great fun to watch. The ensemble was well-chosen. Tim Allen and Alan Rickman stand out of the crowd, but Tony Shalhoub has some decent scenes as well. The rest is all above average as well. The effects are surprisingly good considering this movie didn't have a huge budget as far as I know. I like how the movie plays with TV-sci-fi-series clichés and stereotypes as well as with obsessive fans. The movie is entertaining from its first minute to its last. It isn't laugh-out-loud funny, yet amusing throughout mostly thanks to Allen, Rickman and Rockwell.

It's funny because it's such a tongue-in-cheek spoof of the genre; it's not intended to be a regular comedy.

Surprisingly very good movie. Fun concept and a great cast. I'm surprised it wasn't more successful. I grade it an A-.

People here a very easy critics, I usually only give around five films a year the grade of A

so far the only ones ofr 2005 to get an A are:
1. Batman Begins (A-)
2. ROTS (A-)
3. March of the Penguins (A-)
4. Wedding Crashers (A-)

So we like some movies better than you? That doesn't mean we're easy. Look at my signature and you'll see I rarely give A's. In this instance I think Galaxy Quest deserves it.

It pays off in that it's a great sci-fi adventure comedy, as well as mocking the origins from which it was spawned in a light manner as well. A huge surprise. I'd definitely reccomend this to just about anyone. A-

I try to be a tough critic, and only give about a tenth of movies an A, if that.

In this case, Galaxy Quest deserves an A-/B+

It has to be, by far, the best spoof movie ever. A perfect imitation on Trek. I love it.

Its a great comedy, I think I only gave 10 movies As in 99 and this was easily one of them. They played the characters so well.

Sam Rockwell as the Extra was absolutely hysterical to watch
Tim Allen played a great fool on a huge ego trip
Alan Rickman played the perfect Thesbian fed up with his character
Sigourney Weaver was suprisingly the sexiest I've ever seen her
Tony Shaloub pre monk was great as the Team Player
And Of course, the black actor, god rest his sole before he was parlyzed and died, was great as a child actor grown up.
And Of Course the obsessive fans, a great adventure, fun laughs, and suprisingly touching in the end

Its an A all the way in my book, not the best spoof ever, but its a great edition.

Tim Allen's only good movie. They should have made a sequel to this years ago. Good ensemble cast, so many funny minor characters.

@thegun: do you mean Daryl Mitchell? He isn't dead.

Have I mentioned lately that this movie cracks me up?

Tommy Webber: You know, that is really getting annoying.
Gwen DeMarco: [shouts] Look! I have one job on this lousy ship, it's *stupid*, but I'm gonna do it! Okay?
Tommy Webber: Sure, no problem.

What a wonderful movie! I just watched it yesterday. I'm sorry I didn't come across it before.

Sigourney Weaver has some fantastic lines in this film.

I'm for and against the idea...It's just such a great movie by itself. And is WAY UNDERrated, in my opinion.

This deserved so much more money than it got. I loved it.
