Quote:
Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles is a 1994 American drama and horror film directed by Neil Jordan, based on the 1976 novel Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice. The film focuses on Lestat and Louis, beginning with Louis' transformation into a vampire by Lestat in 1791. The film chronicles their time together, and their turning of a twelve year old Creole girl, Claudia, into a vampire. The narrative is framed by a present day interview, in which Louis tells his story to a San Francisco reporter.

The film stars Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Kirsten Dunst, with Antonio Banderas and Stephen Rea co-starring. The film was released in November 1994 to generally positive critical acclaim, and received Oscar nominations for Best Art Direction and Best Original Score. Kirsten Dunst was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.

This has always been a bit weird of a movie for me to grade. It is very well-made and is among the best of the "sophisticated" vampire movies, but for some reason it's the kind of a movie that while it's interesting, it still seems to drag on forever and once it's over you have a feeling that you don't want to rewatch this movie in the next 5-10 years. Kirsten Dunst pulls off an impressive performance here, but Tom Cruise is also great. Brad Pitt is a bit bland in this one. He can act better than that. The story is pretty interesting and I liked the conclusion.

*yawn*

C-ish or something. It's technically impressive but boring as hell. I was just kinda waiting for it to end.

This movie managed the difficult task of making both Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt extremely unattractive. I'm thinking those two should never again play vampires.

Yeah, anyway. I like this movie, but I don't love it. It's visually striking and Kirsten Dunst was wonderful in her first major role, but it is a little bit boring. B

A, I've rewatched this many times over the years with the most recent viewing this past year. Yes, the movie does get better over time, and it is yet another example of why 1994 is the best year for studio movies of all time.

Decent, but nothing spectacular at all. I did love Kirsten Dunst here.

Stylish and moody, and Dunst is better than she's been ever since. I'd rank it alongside Coppola's Dracula as far as recent vamp flicks.
