Blade
BladeQuote: Blade is a 1998 vampire action film starring Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff, loosely based on the Marvel Comics character Blade. The film was directed by Stephen Norrington and written by David S. Goyer. Snipes plays Blade, a human-vampire hybrid, who protects humans against vampires. Blade grossed $70 million at the U.S. box office, and $131.2 million worldwide. Two sequels, Blade II and Blade: Trinity, were subsequently produced. Very entertaining, original, and awesome. A

A good Marvel adapatation with Wesley Snipes playing the best role of his career and being at the top of the game. It just surprises me that after the Blae films, Snipes didn't become a bigger action star. The movie is not without its flaws and it does drag here and there, but it is innovative, stylish and the action is really good, especially toards the end. Stephen Dorff was a good choice for the villain.

Very fun, surprisingly solid film, although I will say when Blade fights the guards in that temple at the end it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. B+

A very strong action film. I quite enjoyed it. This is the ONLY good film in the Blade trilogy. The two sequels suck.

Re: Blade
I'd only ever seen the last fifteen minutes of this thing, but I'd seen that part on at least three separate occasions. I finally saw the whole thing on TV a couple nights ago. It's fairly mediocre all-around: it's got an interesting mythology, great chemistry between Blade and Whistler, and some great action sequences, but it suffers from drab acting and some truly terrible effects. The sword-fights are pretty exciting, though, and somewhat make up for the lack of a decent story in between them. A mid-range comic adaptation.

Re: Blade
Its a decent early Marvel movie with great visuals, bloody action scenes, Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff being amazing but a bland direction and unfocused. I can understand why this movie has such an avid fanbase but I somehow never saw this movie before because it didn't connect with me. Blade as a hero is still not built but I felt Snipes makes up for the lack of that. Stephen Dorff is equally good. The ending though was slightly passable but the build-up to that was great.
