It's very hard to believe Federer won that match, much less in straight sets. He played horribly. Then again, Davydenko wasn't all that sharp either. Still, whew.

Could we have some competitive match here? Nadal rolled again. Federer will certainly need to improve a lot. Hope for a classic final.

Justine Henin d. Ana Ivanovic 6-1 6-2
Another year, another destruction in the final. You really have to get to Henin early at RG otherwise it's just not gonna happen. I do hope the mens final provides some excitement, otherwise this may just be the most boring GS I've ever seen. Only two matches were sort of memorable, Sharapova d. Schnyder and Djokovic d. Patience. Other than that. Zzzzzzzz.

Less than 9 hours from the Mens Final.
I won't be able to watch it from the start as I won't be by a television until Noon, but I hope it'll last long enough so I catch the final set OR that Federer will just win it quickly and I can watch it on my PVR. I really want Federer to win this, but I think Rafa will take it. 7-5 7-6 6-2

No way does Nadal win in straight sets.

Two of them will be close though.
But given both of their forms at this tournament, I think Federer will be hard pressed to take a set of Nadal. Federer will try and run Nadal around the court instead of hitting it to his body and forcing him to create the angle, and Federer's forehand will be patchy at best.

In Grand Slams Nadal almost always coughs up an easy set in the early going against Federer.
Expect at least the same this time.
Don't expect possibly the best tennis player ever to be dominated in striaght sets while playing for a grand slam final.

But he wouldn't be dominated in straight sets, it would be a close couple of sets.
That's like saying Davydenko was dominated in the Semi's, when he wasn't, he just choked away sets.
I didn't expect possibly the best tennis player ever to be beaten twice in a row on hard court by a guy just coming off a drug suspension, but it happened anyway.

Yeah, and now he's in the final of a grandslam. What's his record in grand slam finals?

In the 11 times Federer has faced Nadal (Nadal leading 7-4) Nadal has only TWICE beat him in straight sets. Onle one of those was on clay (faced him 5 times on clay), and none of them were best of 5 set matches.
Game. Set. Match.

I hope you're right, and judging from my past guesses I haven't been too accurate with the amount of sets won or lost, so you just might be.
Federer's just going to have to do everything right, primarily get a high %age of 1st serves in.

No doubt. This will haunt him forever if he loses! or at least for another year.
I think he will win, but it is no where near a guarantee.
What I DO think is a guarantee, though, is that he wont go down in straights. And if he does, ouch, that will be so bad for his psyche!

I think if he's going to crack Nadal at RG, this is the time he will, not so much because of his form - because it hasn't been great - but because he's just coming off a victory in Hamburg over Nadal, even though Hamburg and RG are different speeds, suited more towards Federer. He's probably in the best possible mental space to CapriPants.
I want to see a Grand Slam damn it.

I knew Federer wouldn't go out like a chump! 1 set all!
Now, he's playing poorly, which sucks. He's had like 25 break chances and has only converted on one.
He can definitely beat Nadal, but his best just doesn't seem to come out against him at rolland garros.

Federer will squeak out the next set...
But it looks like Nadal isn't gonna let up

Federer's forehand, of all things, has bee letting him down.

I just saw the last game, but Roger apparently had 10 break chances in the first set. You aren't going to win many championships if you don't convert on any, oh yeah and 60 unforced errors don't help the cause either.

The first set was there for the taking. Roger was consistently up 40-15 in Nadal's serves, and it was painful to see each chance sailed away. To think he could only get 30% first serve in for the first set but face just one break point was quite remarkable. Unfortunately that break decided it.
Roger looked surprisingly subdued the whole game.

Ugh. Gratz to Nadal but I was hoping Federer would win because he would have been 80-85% sure to complete the grand slam. Oh well, there's always next year but he has to really examine how to beat Nadal because what he's done the past two years doesn't work against him.

Tennis is kind of going through a predictable state... as much as I love Federer, Henin, Nadal.

Believe it or not, the predictable state may end up helping Tennis. At least Men's Tennis, anyway.
If Nadal and Federer meet in the finals at least 2 times a year, it becomes a rivalry, which will help. Though I think one will have to beat the other on their surface to really see a rivalry going.

If Nadal can make the U.S. Open final, we could be seeing a real rivalry.
