EDIT: You know what, I don't want to even bother with you people. Nevermind.

I think Dr. Jam said it best:

Dr Jam wrote:
I don't think that it's a touchstone for who "gets" cinema and who doesn't, but it's certainly a good way to gauge whether someone goes to the cinema for the same reason as you. I remember, after seeing The City of Lost Children (which we all loved), one of my friends swore in a moment of fervent devotion that, from then on, he would "vet" potential girlfriends by showing them the film and making sure that they loved it. I'm 99% sure that he never implemented that plan, but still - I think something similar happened to me with Children of Men, in that I think it's a good way of quickly establishing whether someone is on the same cinematic wavelength as me. If I knew that someone didn't like it, I would take his or her film recommendations with a pinch of salt anyway...

Just saw it again on DVD. Still outstanding. After seeing it three times, I'm confident that this is in my top ten of all time.

On to watch the special features...

I agree with everything you said. I watched it today, expecting to be let down a bit since I know what happens, but I wasn't. When the tense scenes start, my eyes are just glued to the screen. This was my third viewing, and it's still just as good. In my top ten of all time. Definitely.

I didn't get to the special features yet, but I will tomorrow.

I do feel bad for those on here who didn't see it, but are going to eventually. I'm almost embarrassed by how hyped up it is on here. I was lucky enough to see it when it was only Snrub and Loyal hyping it up. Although, even if I just saw it for the first time today, I couldn't imagine hating it in any way.

I hope a 2-discer is eventually released. I almost didn't buy the single disc, expecting a 2-disc release by Christmas. But it might not get that lucky treatment, so I caved and bought it.

I think the question you should ask yourselves... is why are people here so upset when people love a movie. I got flame PMs because I loved The New World. Should I not say anything? Is it a fucking crime to recommend it to people?

I dunno. I don't think people get mad. The internet is just weird like that. When 90 percent of the internet love something the other ten percent either feel bad they're not in on it, superior that they're not in on it, weird that they're not in on it, or some other thing that I don't understand. So instead of just letting their opinion be known or actually discussing something, they're very vocal about who wrong the majority is, without ever saying anything of substance. I've done it myself, but I do it out of spite and usually in jest (and I'm pretty sure i make it clear). Anyway, the point is, I dun think its ever really a "mad" thing...just a weird thing. :o :O

Also, I wish I'd get flame pms for liking something. :o :(

Indeed these flaming PM's sound interesting.

Anyways if i love a movie i honestly couldn't give a toss if somebody else hates me for it. I always think of Urban Intelligentsia's when i think about an intolerance of opinion for some reason. Must be my Country redneck heart.

Only a page behind Kong and New World (Which I still need to see :glare: ).

I gave it a third viewing before sending it back, and it's still probably the best movie of the decade for me (This or Before Sunset, which I also had a second viewing of recently). It somehow is able to stay fresh with every viewing, and never get stale. Love Love Love it.

I also still need to see The New World. Given the correlation between the fans of that and this, I'm hopeful.

That's just absurd. No one should get flame PMs for loving a movie.

For every movie that I love that a lot of other people also love, there's about ten movies that I love that I could easily get ridiculed for (and sometimes do). But I don't care. We love what we love, and no one should hate us either way.

Sometimes, it's nice being a yoshue. But in the end, I'm just a Zingaling.

I always thought my taste in films was called "mainstream" but apparently it's now called Zingaling.

And yes, Mr. X, you are a ZINGALING. Don't you forget it.

It makes me sad that Dolce refuses to see CoM, as she'd probably be one of its biggest fans.

I'd rather be a yoshue than a Guybrush. Hell, I'd rather be a Zingaling than a Guybrush.

I love you really, X-y. I'm just trying to push this thing to 20 pages. That way everyone will know that Children of Men is truly the greatest movie of all time!

Actually, not. Your infatuation with Tim Burton makes me really really want to be a Snrub. Please? Please? Can I?

Guybrush is a prat and that has nothing to do with his movie taste he's just an annoying prat.

Hey Snrub are going to get the 2 disc special edition of CoM? You can get it for free if you return the original release.

Supposedly Cauron didn't know the release was Vanilla till he saw it for sale.

Any news of a 2-disc edition on this side of the pond?

Its out now, the latest edition of Empire has a review.

If you want a free copy you have to send the original copy you have with a jiffy bag stamped with 70p to

Children of Men DVD Amnesty
PO Box 188
Woodford Green
Essex
1G8 7RW

I've taken the address from the empire article talking about it.

This the new cover art at least its an improvement from the messy original

Fuckin' A!

Although I must admit, I'm tempted to keep hold of my current shitty DVD as some sort of collector's item. Plus, I don't like the idea of any version of the movie being condemned to a mass grave in the Sahara desert, which I assume is the fate of these original one-discers. I may just keep the original and buy a second copy.

I happened to be conversing with my bestest buddy in the world (Archie Gates) the other day about Children of Men - and I must say I agree 100% with his opinion on this movie.

If a severly depressed James Bond (Owen) starred in a video game adaptation of Call of Duty, it would be exactly like Children of Men. It was a dreary uninspired movie that the critics really missed the mark on... it's movies like this that make me lose faith in professional critics and blowhards that think they know good cinema.

Now, I'm not saying it's terrible - it's just highly overrated. Not to mention it makes a mockery of the book.

My favorite part of the movie was that the director's name is Alfonso Cuarón and one of the actor's names was Chiwetel Ejiofor. Haha. That's got to be some kind of child abuse to name your kids like that!
