One of the Chinese girls lost tonight against Molik. She forced the 2nd set to a tie break though.

Nadal, Nalbandian, Hingis, Sharapova all through.

It was extremely hot today. Still is now at midnight. The players were falling apart. The outside courts were closed and thos matches played tonight.

Yesterday there was a riot between Croats and Serbs. It was quickly diffused. The cancellation of the Serb vs Croat match today due to the heat atleast stopped further clashes.

I may go tomorrow or Thursday - hopefully on centre court if its not sold out.

How does Ljubicic get these high seedings every tournament? He loses early every time. Does he do extremely well in the minor tournaments, or what? Either way, placing him ahead of Roddick and Nalbandian is dumb.

When the last time Roddick did anything interesting, and getting beat by Federer lsat year doesn;t really ocunt, it came after a tsring of suckiage.

The fact, Federer and Nadel eat most of the damn points in the rankings, how the rank the rest of 'em is pretty fucking moot.

Current Rankings

1st Federer , R. 8120
2nd Nadal , R. 4525
3rd Davydenko , N. 2825
4th Ljubicic , I. 2570
5th Blake , J. 2530
6th Robredo , T. 2455
7th Roddick , A. 2415
8th Nalbandian , D. 2295
9th Gonzalez , F. 2015
10th Ancic , M. 2000

Look at that bloody gap, I mean honestly, how you rank 3 through 10, who FUCKING cares? Until one of them steps up and takes a major they all sit there bunched in with each other. At this point AgentX could make the top ten without much work, you don't need that many points...

Well, I did take 4 games off this 40 year old Chinese guy across the street from me a few years ago, so I think #6 is well within my grasp. Look out Tommy Robredo!

If you could draw Roddick in the French, you'd be in the top 10 in no time.

S. Williams USA d N. Petrova RUS [5] 1-6 7-5 6-3

Serena had a 3-0 lead in the second set before Petrova came back and got the opportunity to serve for the match, she didn't.

Wow - controversial match between Roddick and Safin. See-Saw battle but in the end Roddick was too good.

BTW - its still damn hot - though next week should be much better.

How was it controversial? Please explain!

Mauresmo just got bounced.

L. Safarova CZE d. Amelie Mauresmo FRA [2] 6-4 6-3

This opens up the bottom half enough so that I think the winner of the 4th round match between Jankovic and Serena will be the finalist from that section.

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

It rained so they closed the roof - but in the time it took for the roof to close the court got wet. They did the usual mop up but Safin claimed it was still to wet and dangerous to play and started arguing with the umpire. He then lost concentration and Roddick took the upperhand. Safin then started to lose it a little and was fined for swearing at the umpire and carrying on. He later blasted the officials for allowing play to continue.

Men's Quarterfinals

Roger Federer SUI (1) vs. Tommy Robredo ESP (7)
Mardy Fish USA vs. Andy Roddick USA (6)

Tommy Haas GER (12) vs. Nikolay Davydenko RUS (3)
Fernando Gonzalez CHI (10) vs. Rafael Nadal ESP (2)

I don't see Roger or Andy having much trouble making it through their matches on way to a rematch of the US Open final. Where I would expect Roger to beat Andy, even given Andy's win over Roger in Kooyong, Rebound Ace is slower than US Open hard court and that would benefit Roger more than Andy.

Bottom half, I see Haas making it through where he could face Gonzalez who took out Blake in straight sets. Nadal needed 5 to take out Murray and I don't know if he can play good enough defense against Gonzalez's blistering forehand which will win him many of his points.

Women's Quarter-Finals

Maria Sharapova RUS (1) vs. Anna Chakvetadze RUS (12)
Kim Clijsters BEL (4) vs. Martina Hingis SUI (6)

Serena Williams USA vs. Shahar Peer ISR (16)
Nicole Vaidisova CZE (10) vs. Lucie Safarova CZE

Maria should get through her match, as she has been playing much better since that first round scare, and Hingis is going to need a lot more than the 8 winners she came up with against Li to beat Kim, so I see Maria/Kim semi in the top half.

Serena destroyed Jankovic who was playing great tennis in Australia, so I don't see a problem with her making it to the semis, where she'll most likley face Vaidisova who, when consistent, is always a threat to anyone.

I'd argue that it was fuel to set the fire and actually helped him, he's that kind of guy on the court. He was playing really solid after the incident, then the tank just went on empty after awhile.

Yeah he did apparently play fairly well afterwards i must say and then deflated later. I didnt see the whole match but im sure your right on that.

He was awesome here a few years back when he won - shame he tends to blow hot and cold.

Bottom half semifinal is set: Serena vs. Nicole as:

S. Williams USA d. S. Peer ISR [16] 3-6 6-2 8-6

Serena had to break to stay in the match at 5-6.

Vaidisova has been very impressive. Removed Mauresmo and now through to the semis. Brilliant.

A shame Li Na lost to Hingis as I would have liked to see her through, though I like seeing Hingis do well too.

While Vaidisova has been impressive, it was Safarova who took out Mauresmo. Nicole took out Dementieva.

The first semifinal on the mens side is set and it's no surprise:

R. Federer SUI [1] v. A. Roddick USA [6]

How they got there:

R. Federer SUI [1] d. T. Robredo ESP [7] 6-3 7-6 7-5
A. Roddick USA [6] d. M. Fish USA 6-2 6-2 6-2

Both semifinals on the womens side are set.

M. Sharapova RUS [1] d. A. Chakvetadze [12] 7-6 7-5
K. Clijsters BEL [4] d. Martina Hingis SUI [6] 3-6 -6-4 6-3

So:

M. Sharapova RUS [1] v. K. Clijsters BEL [4]
S. Williams USA v. N. Vaidisova CZE [10]

Not a bad lineup.

Wow, Gonzalez was just too good. He is certainly favored now against Haas, and if he can get through, that's going to be a fun final against Federer or Roddick.
