i think another race incident this year by Michael and it would have been 1994 all over again. The Stewards are being extremely generous to Michael this year, prolly because the championship contender isn't british. but i dont see the multiple race bans too far away from him if he continues his antics this year.

True. Also i'd imagine that the FIA would have watched very closely if Schumi did get by and Massa suddenly slowed down to let him by since its technically banned under the rules, Ferrari would have had to come up with a creative reason for Massa's sudeen "problem"

Alonso can now afford to finish 2nd in all the remaining races and take that title regardless of how Schumi does. Have to admit the points system does lessen the value of a race win somewhat.

The 2 point gap between 1st and 2nd is plain wrong. 4 points should be the difference.

Congratulations to Massa.

Good race to the end!

Yes. To out-right brazenly give team orders isn't allowed. I think they brought it in after Austria 2002 when Barrichello gifted a win to Schumi. I do think its a bit silly to still have that rule in place near the end of a season.

Schumi staying silent on his future

http://www.planet-f1.com/News/Story_Pag ... 35,00.html

Quote:
Michael Schumacher is refusing to say whether or not he will remain with Ferrari in 2007, urging his fans to patiently waiting for Sunday's announcement.

Schumacher's current deal with Ferrari expires at the end of this season and although some are expecting him to continue racing next year, others feel he will opt to hang up his helmet.

However, everyone will have to wait until after Sunday's Italian Grand Prix to known Schumacher's future plans as the seven-times World Champion is refusing to say anything until then.

"Of course I know that Ferrari's announcement is being eagerly awaited," he told his website.

"We announced last week that it will be made on Sunday following the race because we want to do our best in focusing on the race, and of course I'm sticking to this agreement.

"So all I can do is ask everyone to understand that I don't want to touch on that subject until Sunday."

If he's a smart man he'll call it a day. Hes looking a bit more fallible of late and if he stays in 2007 with Raikkonen at his side he may be out-raced. He's had a good run but its time to call it.

I think the writings on the wall and that on Sunday after the race - Ferrari will hold the press conference in which Michael retires and they announce Kimi as his replacement. There is no way he will stay and face Kimi.

Also MS has been quoted as saying:

''I do not have colleagues (at Ferrari),'' he said, ''instead I have friends.

''After more than ten years I am nearly Italian and the experience has been beautiful"

The word HAS means he is already refferring to Ferrari in the past tense. Love him or hate him - it will be sad to see him go.

BTW - Renault has announced Heikki Kovelainian as there 2007 driver. I like Heikki so I wish him well. His duels with rosberg in GP2 were great and his win over Michael Schumacher in the Race of Champions Cup back in 2004 was an eye opener.

Flavio Briatore has also signed on for 2 more years at Renault.

Now lets see who they put in the Mclaren alongside Alonso, once Kimi is announced at Renault. Its between Hamilton and DeLaRosa.

Kimi grabs pole at Monza

http://www.planet-f1.com/News/Story_Pag ... 47,00.html

And Heidfeld is in the mix as well in 3rd with Michael 2nd and Alonso 5th. First corner will be interesting tomorrow, very little chance of overtaking being done Monza has proved to be a nightmare for that of late.

KIMI!!!!

Alonso has been given a penalty for "impeding" Massa during qualifying and has been dropped to 10th!

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/54386

I dont want Alonso to win but this is a joke. :disgust:

Have a look at the video - how the F(errar)IA can penalise him is just ridiculous.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY-lKEt1QLM

BTW Hamilton is now the new GP2 Champion

(autosport news is now free for non subscribers so i dont have to paste the whole aticle now :) )

Well its official...

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER RETIRES FROM F1......KIMI RAIKKONEN TO REPLACE HIM IN 2007!!!

What a day. MS wins, Kimi his replacement 2nd and Kubica fantastic in 3rd.

As much as Ive been against MS over the years - it will be sad to see him go. He has made some seasons exciting with his talent and his controversial antics - but I wish him well.

Kubica - what a talent - great to see him get his 1st podium in his 3rd race!

Alonso - i feel sorry for him - MS will likely steal this championship off him

BRING IN KIMI!!!!! I will support him 100% next year, but wont wear Ferrari red.

Alonso was massively defiant after the race saying he fully expects to be quicker then Ferrari in the last 3 races. Looks like the Monza nonsense got to him which is justified. Still I've read far stranger decisions there, Hunt and Andretti are 2 men that were screwed by the Monza officials in the past when a Ferrari was in the mix.

Alonso (and Renault) was clearly screwed at Monza and in the past few races. I dont blame him for being so bitter.

As for Schumacher - no matter how many wins/poles/championships he has - he never did have a strong teammate or a team who didnt support him over his teammate - this will always tarnish him.

I've got a feeling he'll be the big man with Alonso/Raikkonen in the next few years

Yes! He's kind of come out of nowhere hasnt he - much like Kimi and to some extent Alonso. I think thats the best way really.

After these guys - there is also the new generation who look promising:

Hamilton (Mclaren)
Kovelanian (Renault)
Vettel (BMW)
Rosberg (Williams)

In the next few years we'll see some of the "old timers" like Barrichello, DC, Fisichella, Ralf and Trulli depart F1.

Next year - Barrichello will be the longest serving driver (14 years) and Alonso the only Champion in F1. In 1999, we still had 4 World Champions in the sport and Alesi was the longest serving (10 years).

I really hope Hamilton makes it good. I remember when he was tipped in F1 racing magazine a few years back when he was only 12.

Oh and I just realised there is one F1 record Schumi didn't hover up. Most Starts, Nice one Ricardo Patrese.

Yes!! Way to go Ricardo :)

Its a big shame MS had to take Senna's pole record. Though atleast it took Senna less GP's to get those poles.

As for Hamilton - if he gets the Mclaren seat - i'll definately support him as I still want to support Mclaren but cant do so with Alonso. Hamilton went up to Ron Dennis and spoke asked him for a drive when he was just a kid. Incredible!

yeah its a joke. Absolutely pathetic. Apparently to block these days you only have to disturb the air of the car behind - what a joke. The FIA has always blatantly favoured Ferrari (and Schumacher since being at Ferrari) and thats the way it is - they want him to retire an 8 time WDC.

I never knew until yesterday that the Midland F1 team has been sold to Dutch Sportscar firm Spyker. Good Riddance is all I have to say, Midland were a charisma hole that brought nothing to the sport, It'll be interesting to see what Spyker do. A return for Verstappen perhaps?

Yes - Midland was terrible. They had no idea what was going on nor did they care.

Mike Gasgoyne will be technical director so it should be interesting!

Hamilton gears up for McLaren test

http://www.planet-f1.com/News/Story_Pag ... 70,00.html

Quote:
Lewis Hamilton has admitted it would be "a risk" for McLaren to promote him to a race seat in 2007 - but the British youngster remains confident that he wouldn't be out of his depth alongside Fernando Alonso.

The 21-year-old has excelled in GP2 this season, securing the title last week at Monza, and has been strongly tipped to partner Alonso following the departure of Juan-Pablo Montoya.

According to reports, Hamilton will be provided with his first major opportunity to impress in a F1 car next week at Silverstone. The Stevenage-born driver is expected to test alongside Pedro de la Rosa in a confrontation that will inevitably be billed as a shoot-out for McLaren's remaining race seat next year.

Yet Hamilton remains unruffled by the speculation and the prospect of reaching the pinnacle of motor racing at such a tender age.

"It's a tough decision for the team and Mercedes," he told the BBC. "It's a risk because I've not tested the car yet, so no-one knows if I'll be quick or not. It depends on whether they're willing to take that risk.

"At the end of the day it's the team's decision, but I feel I've got a good relationship with everyone on the team and feel they'd be happy for me to drive as a test or race driver."

Hamilton also claims that he would relish the opportunity of racing alongside Alonso.

"I think that would be a major advantage," he declared. "Going into F1 is extremely tough, so having the best driver alongside you with all that experience would be the best solution for me.

"The things I can learn from Alonso are endless."

De La Rosa has his work cut out in a shootout with Hamilton. I'm hoping for Hamilton to nab the second McLaren seat, he'll keep Alonso very honest I think. De La Rosa is solid but not top drawer material.

Yes - I hope he gets the seat. I can then support Mclaren again ;)

De La Rosa has been solid - probably got more points than Montoya would have managed (in his recent state of mind). I just hope for him that he can get a podium place in one of the next three races - kind of deserved I'd say - then bing on Hamilton in 07!!

I was there trackside in 01 when Kimi, Alonso and JPM made their debuts - so would love to be there when Heikki and Hamilton do to!!!

BTW - with Heikki at Renault and Hamilton at Mclaren - it could be the best chance for a "victory on debut" since Villenueve in 1996!!

Well this weeks Chinese GP really did show all that is good about Schumi. Taking victory in a clearly inferior car it had shades of Hungary 98 when he beat the superior McLaren's in a straight fight. Short of Senna and Clark nobody optimizes a cars performance better. Roll on Japan where Alonso definetly won't lay down easy.
