Another World Cup over. Italy win while there is scandal at home just like 1982. Cannavaro is the only really deserving man on that team thou.
As for South Africa 2010 I really hope they being down the crime rate before then for the sake of visiting supporters.

Quite nice. It is even bigger than it seems in pictures and on TV. Though the overall architecture of the whole Olympia Park still makes it clear when this whole thing was built...

They have to build several stadiums, along with some basic infrastructure. The Cape Town stadium plans are on hold right now because the mayor or official doesn't want to spend hundreds of millions on a stadium while poverty is so rife. I think South Africa will pull it off, because they will bring it outside help if need be; the World Cup is too huge a deal. But you're right, I think some 30,000 people are killed in South Africa every year, highest murder rate in the world, and once you get out of the large cities, it's basically like every other African country.
I'm certain they won't match Germany's organization skill. I think only Japan could, but I don't remember being that impressed with 2002.
At the rate it's going in terms of organization costs, I think only a few countries in the world will be able to host such huge events in the future. I have a feeling China might want to bid for one sometime in the future, in order to (finally) increase their presence in the football world.
The 2014 Cup will probably go to Brazil, but I'm not sure they're that much better than South Africa, actually (South Africa is actually economically ahead by a bit, heh). Argentina is too small, with only Buenos Aires as a big city, and Mexico is the only other Latin American country big enough to handle the cup.
I've heard that Hamburg is interested in bidding for the 2020 or 2024 Olympics. I think this WC will boost its chances greatly. Of all the major events I've witnessed, I think only Barcelona 1992 and Sydney 2000 were as good as this WC, and both of those were on a smaller scale, being concentrated on one city.

Since Box dodn't seem to want to say it (my apologies if I read your wrong on this), I will:
The best places to host the cup are in Europe, FIFA's dreams to the contrary. While China probably will get there at some point and perhaps Brazil as well (might be there now), the best place not in Europe in terms of infrastructure, and probably the one of the few if only places that can handle events like this is the US. Not that I advocating a return, just stating how I see it. FIFA would be better served keeping it in Europe and fixing the ref problem than trying to artificially globalize when there are so few countries that can truly handle an event like this.

South Africa is a terrible place to host the WC. I know, FIFA owns it to Africa, but still, it is not a good place for a WC.

There are rumours that FIFA will bring the World Cup 2010 to Australia if South Africa does not speed up.

I would say these are the countries that can host it on their own, that have excellent infrastructure, enough capital, etc.:
Germany
United Kingdom
France
Italy
Spain
Japan
United States
I think Canada and Australia could pull it off, just slightly, but countries like Sweden or Switzerland, as wealthy as they are, are so small compared to the seven listed above. I think FIFA has been turned off of having two countries hosting after Korea/Japan, but I think it would work really well with Belgium/Netherlands or Portugal/Spain or Sweden/Denmark.
The thing that works in Europe's advantage is its location: everyone can watch the games live with little problem. I loved how well the games worked into my schedule this WC.

Well, Austria and Switzerland are hosting in 2008 (European Championship)

Switzerland has Euro 2008 (and we will win that Cup btw ) . So the first time for World Cup will be 2030 or so and we would need to double the size of our stadiums. But who knows. When Blatter his dieing his last words may bring the WC to us.

South Africa is in the same time zones as Europe. I'm guessing the host cities would be Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Newcastle, Canberra. Oh, wonderful! That should be great!

Zidane not headbutting-->again Italy's win. Didn't seem they would've scored anyway.
I just hope this win doesn't 'pardon' in slightest bit clubs from Italian league.

Its possible. Columbia was supposed to host the 1986 World Cup before Mexico had to take over when they ran into difficulties.

ITALIA! ITALIA!
Zidane's headbutt was absolutley ridiculous. My jaw hit the floor when I saw that. I mean, why? He might've called him an Arab, said he rapes children and his wife, but the most experienced player in the WC finals, in the last game of his career? He must've known a red card was coming, there's no way you get away with that. Jeez.
But I'm happy that Italy won. Yay.

There is very little chance of a pardon. European clubs are lining up to take the affected clubs players on loan for a season.

I'm just saying that as there are rumours, well, some reporters here and in world, think that jury, or judges or whoever, might be a bit less severe with them winning. Thankfully, Italian sports minister said bollocks to that. :-)

In my world, Germany would have won.
Congrats to Italy... I guess.
PEACE, Mike.

An uncorrupt Italian sports minister. Thank God for small miracles

THAT WAS A RED CARD, IF ITALY DID THAT YOU WOULD GIVE THEM A RED CARD RIGHT AWAY!
Even in the tough game of ice hockey that would be a game suspension. So all you zidane lovers (he is still a great skillfull player) need to see that again.
