Superman's shaping up to be a great movie. I can't wait! First Batman Returns and now this, DC kicks the shit out of Marvel. Shit that we in Europe have to wait a little longer due to the world cup craze here...

What's no longer in the film? The TV spot I'm talking about features scenes from the plane crash, reviews I've seen say the plane crash is in the film.

not true at all...
a small dedicated fanbase is like blade or daredevil.
superman has at least the second largest fanbase next to spiderman.
and if you want to disagree with me, then prove the 300 million adjusted gross in 1978 and the countless of kids born after that.
kids, young adults, older adults, and elderly people will see this because superman has been around for tens of years (70 i think?)

The Ben Hubbard scene is cut where the "SO I HEARD YOU FLEW IN LAST WEEK" line comes from obviously for time (he
does appear late in the film but is never explained) likewise SUPERMAN just returns, the whole Krypton sequence has been
cut.

*kong was in the past. superman is still everywhere, movie or not. little pent up demand?!? youv gotta be kidding me! superheor movies are huge and to most supermans is as big as they come. sauperman is the defining comic book superhero, and their in right now. theres lots of demand for this,

*"nice stretch of school days"-kong had 2 weeks. superman has 2 months.
you also neglect to say that narnia opened before kong, and was better then expected and stolre a lot of kongs thunder. the same will probably with superman. wom is better then expected and thus it holds better then expected.

Yes, I saw the movie last night. Ben Hubbard's Smallville scenes have been axed from the film though you can see him with Ma Kent later on. You see Krypton go boom all over again leading into the title sequence but the first time you see SUPERMAN is him having returned.
Personally I don't disagree with either cut as the film is still somewhat overlong even with those changes.
If the screening I went to is any indication, it actually does draw a nice demographic skew, favoring on the young side.

I'm feeling confident in these new predictions:
Wednesday- $25 million
Thursday- $15 million
Friday- $22.5 million
Saturday- $24.8 million
Sunday- $21 million
3-Day: $68.3 million
5-Day: $108.3 million
I can't wait for this to come out. I've just about secured tickets to see in IMAX on that Saturday.

On how it goes (SPOILERS, LOOK AWAY)
excel wrote: did you like the film?

There is a title card that covers the cut scenes, you see a pre-explosion Krypton surface (from the original film) along with Marlon Brando's speech a new all CGI destruction (planet surface only) of Krypton sequence that leads to a nifty telescopic credits CGI POV fly through the galaxy sequence (presumably SUPERMAN'S return to Earth) that plays great tribute to
the original film.
It then switches to an Earthbound scene featuring a cameo by the original TV series Lois Lane introducing well, not Superman.
Next scene is the crash landing of Superman's craft at the Kent Farm. There are questions galore asked throughout the movie though you never get a decent explanation as to why Superman doesn't tell anyone before he leaves, they offer an explanation up in a discussion between Clark and Lois but it seems weak. The Clark disappearance is decently explained though and there's a cute "hey did you ever notice" gag.
I thought it was a solid "B/B-" superhero film. It's best when it's remaking or incorporating classic moments from the first film. You can definitely tell Bryan Singer loves Superman as much as Peter Jackson loves King Kong.

on the credits, i know theres williams score, but is it the same way the originals were, where the names fly at the screen and then go past? ive always wondered what anew verson of that would be like, cause itd probably be cool. movies these days all have shitty credit sequences

Yep. Telescopic flying past credits and everything.

Yep, telescopic credits that fly past, just now with 3D flythroughs of Solar System like planets (some of them utterly ravaged) and the telescoping zooms around a bit, with the classic Superman March. It's a little long but the nostalgia factor made me smile. Should look great in IMAX 3D.

So the "good, not great" vibe sounds like it's pretty accurate.

Knowing that they are overdoing the cross promotional product advertising, the papers handed to him will feature Brandon Routh on the cover sheet

I've seen more reviews praising it than those saying it's good but not great (yeah, i know, it's early...).
I don't trust short attention span teenage geeks who start bitching if there's not enough action in a movie.

Yeah, but how many teenage geeks were at those screenings? I can't see Dave Poland taking advance word from that type of person either.
(edit: FYI - considering my expectations for the film - "good" is not a bad thing, by the way)

Who said any of the reviews that have popped up are teenage geeks?
The reviews that have been referenced to are almost all from the Bridge Press Junket Screening on Thursday
which had very few teens.
