im reading the novelizaton...this is FANTASTIC.

No lie either. no joke.its really good. holy crap! if it keeps up, singer NAILED IT. everything is working,especially the kid! the aint it cool reviewer summed the kids involvment PERFECTLY. im at the scene where lois first meet superman on the roof....classic. i mean..you guys are gonna be amazed if the movie is as good as the book. theres just so many classic superman scenes...this is incredible. im so fucking happy. and the plane scene...i had really high expectations, but reading this blows them away. if the movies half as good as the book, wom will be really good!

ill be back to say if the book goes down hill from here, or continues to soar!

it really is good though, and yeah bkb i know its not the movie its the novel. but its hard to not get excited about how good of a movie it could be when reading it. theres alot of very qoutable dialogue, just like the original.

the running time has beenconfirmed by w.b. at 153 minutes with credits. singer said the opening and closing credits are aroudn 10 minutes combined so were looking a a film around 143 minutes long. if weve learned anything in recent years bout superhero movies, the longr the movie the better it is.

in other news, superman ads are now blanketing espn. ive seen 4 today-all the same one, the imagine being stronger going fatser one. the one that is very spiderman-ish.

But like BKB said, novels arent movies so the novel might be mediocre but the movie can be amazing Still it seems that there really isnt much action to be found in this film, which is fine to me as long as there is a compelling story.

read it. it is like the original, but thats really a complaint. theres also not alack of action. lik all superhero movies the first half is rather slow and the second half is mostly wall to wall action.

This thread gives me migraines. Has there ever been so much debate over a movie in recent history? I have a feeling the prediction sites will be all over the map in the days before SR opens. Some expect huge numbers, while many others expect the man of Steel to wimp out at the B.O. All I know is that I hope Excedrin goes on sale this week.

Okay, so because the film is opening two days early now, I have decided to up my prediction. I figure the early opening should give it another 10 mill or so, I don't think the weekend will increase all that much, but because of the extra perhaps 14 mill over the first two days, then I am now upping my predicdtion to:

OW- 48.5 mill (friday- 15, Sat- 18.5 Sunday- 15)
First 5 days- 63 mill

Total- 169.75
3.5 multiplier from opening weekend, plus 14 mill in it's first two days.

This is my final prediction!!

Aw, Thundy, this thread is the most fun I've had here in a while. We haven't had a good box office war in a while. Don't spoil it. And believe me, this is NOT the biggest debate. I was blessed enough to miss the Hulk War, but I remember the Matrix fights, the Star Wars kerfuffles, the Loonie Wars, and I had to take a hiatus over the Passion Battles.

Couple things:

1. To me all this Superman hype isn't really hype -- people are just responding to ads "Look, it's a billboard, awareness must be high." No. People just can't get away from it. They see it, they say, Oh look. Then they forget about it. And they have to be reminded again. And again. And again. And it gets more annoying each time. How is that hype? Hype comes from the inside, not outside.
   
2. Meanwhile, Pirates 2 has sort of been in the back of people's minds since 2003. Recall Tina's list of merchandise for PotC. You don't put down money to see a billboard. But kids are buying PotC stuff, on their own, without some bombastic billboard telling them to. PotC's got more internal hype than SR, and they haven't even ramped the marketing yet.
   
3. The studio is at cross purposes anyway. What's the good of spending $50M in marketing just to make back, maybe $50M in B.O. sales, half of which they won't see? The best marketing is WOM.
   
4. Excel says that there's a KID invovled in the plot? WTF. As if the emotional syrup from Singer isn't bad enough, now we have to deal with Family Values Superman? ABC After-school-special Superman? Oh puke.

Being as objective as possible, I totally agree about the billboard thing. I see it and then forget about it until I'm reminded again. In addition, no amount of cool posters or product tie-ins has swayed me to want to see this, and I kind of sense this is the feeling from most of the folks I know. Further, I have to wonder why WB is making such a big push for a film that (one would hope) should sell itself. I mean, it is Superman after all. The thing that has me most worried thusfar is that report about WB wanting their employees to give out free tickets to showings. There's no free lunch in this world, and if you're being offered one, it may because the meal isn't very enticing. At this point, I think baumer's predictions are reasonable. POTC 2 is in cruise-control already, while SR seems to be spinning its wheels in increasingly thicker mud.

At Disney they have it easy. All the work has already been done with POTC. All there is to do now is telling people when the sequel opens and lean back. Not so WB, they have to build hype from scratch, convince people that Superman is the thing to watch this summer, so of course they are pushing it very hard.

And handing out free tickets could also mean they are aware that demand is not great but are confident in their product and see it as a way of spreading WOM.

I think Disney is busy with Cars at the moment. As soon as Cars OW is over, they will push Pirates.

Do you guys really think Pirates will make 50 mill first day? Isn't that a bit c razy? I think it has 0 chance of doing that. I mean, this is not Star Wars.

I dont think anyone expected X-3 to make 44 million in its first day either. I guess it depends on how hardcore POTC fanbase is but considering it seems rather low key at the moment, I think its opening days will be more spreadout like Shrek 2 was

And *adults* are buying the PotC stuff, too, including the toys and books (all of which, except the Visual Guide, are aimed at kiddie ages).

And, yeah, once Cars is open on Friday, Disney can switch gears full-on to PotC. The awareness is already up in the kid-age range of Disney's audience. They've been putting PotC comics and contests in the Disney Adventures magazine, and several *months* ago, the Disney Channel Moviesurfers had a sneak peek at PotC.

And then there's Virtual Magic Kingdom. Last time I was there (which I really do need to log on again; been a while), the drive-in theater room had four or five PotC2 teaser posters hanging on the wall. And the Jack Sparrow & Davy Jones costumes accidentally leaked one day and had everyone in a frenzy to get them (they were later taken away by admin). And we're all pretty sure that July will be Pirates Month there at VMK. In fact, looking through some message on the VMK forums, there already seems to be some "pirate activity" there...
