Clara Hughes is just so cute and wonderful. I watched NBC's coverage of the 5000 m, and was just laughing the whole time. First they kept commenting on Klassen and her medal count etc. Then they switched to Pershkin and through out almost the whole race they only focused on her. Only in the last lap or two when Clara made her move did the commentators suddenly had to notice her! It was like " Oh and Clara Hughes is still there, actully challenging it seems but really this is Pershkin's race etc" Then "Clara Hughes makes her Move! Wow we have to pay attention now", lol.Image

Bah.. The Vancouver portion of the closing ceremonies was kind of boring... Though the closing ceremonies as a whole were kind of blah in comparison to Sydney (the best olympics ever).

Great job though when you dont think about Sydney or Athens :)

Best olympics ever were the 1994 winter olympics in Lillehammer

Pershkin? Sounds russian! Do you mean the german skater Pechstein? Anyhow, Clara Hughes was fantastic in that race

Yep, meant the German skater Pechstein, sorry for the spelling. But it was really hilarious, even the camera men had to swing around and make adjustments, they were so focused on Pechstein.

The funny thing is, opposite to canadian tv, on german tv the main favorite for the race was, in fact, Clara Hughes. They were more surprised that Klaasen wound up with a medal, considering the 5000 is usually too much for her (which showed with her dismal final round of 36 seconds. one more lap and she would have collapsed on the ice. But hey, if you come through you made everything right)

I loved that whole competiton! I loved how Hughes, Pechstein and Klassen were so friendly with each other. I lost count of the number of times they hugged each other, etc.

The closing ceremony was indeed boring and bad (oh, so very very bad!), and the Vancouver segment was awful. Fortunately, Vancouver's beauty will silence all those dissenting voices once people get to see how beautiful the city is.

I personally really like the Italian National Anthem. I enjoyed listening to it in both the opening and closing ceremonies. The girl who sung it has a beautiful, mesmerizing voice.

What a great way for Italy to end it getting a gold in the final event. I'm happy for them.

I love the Olympics. I anxiously await the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics.

PEACE, Mike.
