Is that correct Xia?
thinking about it, glad she at least got the silver / 2nd.
maybe it is silver sounds better than bronze
or that at least with 2nd you only lost to 1 person
but in 3rd you still lost to 2 people.

whatever, at least glad it is over.

I'm watching the skating now.
I really like Sarah Hughes. I thought her performance tonight, aside from that one fall, was rather very good. Her face is so adorable.
Edit: or is her name Emily Hughes?

it doesn't help that our country isn't icey or snowy- (well actually it was snowing yesterday- but not enough to do anything sporty with)
also they are tiny tiny countries compared with others... give us some credit
GB that is- no idea why japan isn't as good as in previous years

Well, the Canadian men's hockey team may have disappointed Canada....
But the Canadian men's curling team just kicked ass and won 10-4 over Finland, garnering Canada's first ever olympic GOLD medal in men's curling.
Thousands of kids in Newfoundland were allowed off of school today just to watch this (since Gushue is representing Newfoundland).
PEACE, Mike.

And that gives Canada its 20th medal. Does anyone know if we're good in the upcoming competitions that are left? We need 5 more medals to reach our gold. We'd have the Hockey one if they hadn't messed up
Aren't we supposed to have some guys in the short track competition?

Canada should be proud of that gold... I guess...

@Box: The only good bets I think we have coming up are Klassen in the 5,000 metres, and maybe Leuder's in the 4-Man bobsleigh (they are currently fourth after today's 2 heats - the other 2 are tomorrow).
EDIT: And oh yes, we do have some short-track possibilities. Two Canadian women made it to the 1,000m quarter finals, and two Canadian men made it to the 500m quarter finals, both tomorrow. The finals are also both tomorrow, so if they make it far enough, we'll be getting medals then.
PEACE, Mike.

But wasn;t there some guy in skating who was touted as a potential gold medal winner? Or is that already over, with him losing?

Actually, you're right. Bedard got fastest time in preliminary round for 500m! Quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals are ALL tomorrow. If Bedard keeps it up, we have another potential medal (and even a potential gold, since he placed first in the prelimary - he just has to keep it up).
PEACE, Mike.

Done
And OMG, ok, so we could have some medals added to the total. Fingers crossed. We're so close to our goal.
Though, overall, we've done well at these Olympics. Best tally ever, nm men's hockey. I think the Canadian Women's Hockey team, along with Classen and that delightful Chandra Crawford are the Canadian highlights of these Olympics

Klassen's success is probably the coolest, but Chanda Crawfword = wow! She came out of NOWHERE. And I mean nowhere. Normally most Canadians are mentioned in the pre-event write up articles at CBC for each event, even if they aren't that great, but Crawford wasn't even mentioned at all. She was never expected to win a medal, let alone gold. Her win is absolutely phenomenal, and a huge success, proving even newcomers can pull in unexpected, great results. Her win was a shocker.
PEACE, Mike.

No, I'm ranking them using Levy's system. The official Olympic count is according to gold, but I think that's not wholly fair, given that the achievements of a country like Norway are unfairly ignored. Then again, a by-totals count is unfair to a country like Estonia with its 3 gold. So, a compromise

Don't forget Clara Hughes in the 5000 meters. She's more of a shoe-in than klassen according to CBC.

I'd think that GB would do just as well as Germany and such. Is this fewer than they normally get?
