One step closer, but there's about another ten miles to the Stanley Cup for them. #-o

Sergei Gonchar?!?!?!?!?!? The guy from the Washington team?
Woah. He was awesome. He'd get more assists and goals than Adam Oates, and fuck. Gonchar plays defense.

All I care about is the fact that the Leafs got Belfour in the net. With him there, all you need to do is get the minimum amount of goals to win.

they are as about as close as any other team in the east now.
crosby, lemieux, and recchi with gonchar and another defenseman in the first line with fleury playing goal.
plus melkin in the second line and possibly mike modano?
this team is for real.
yeeeah

Modano re-signed with Dallas. Lemieux is getting older and is gonna be pre-occupied with his last olympic appearance so he's not gonna be at his best. Crosby is a rookie who still has to proove himself on the the professional level. We all know Fleury was a mess last season but maybe he got better (maybe not). Gonchar is gonna kick some ass though. Crazy little russian.

I'll still root for Pittsburgh, but I won't be surprised if they're tied for dead last with Montreal in the end of the season.

Montreal won't be dead last. If anything they'll be in the same position as last season or maybe a spot lower on the playoff ranking. Pittsburgh will either be the top 10 team in the NHL or be in one of the last positions for the playoffs. It all depends on Lemieux performance and if he's able to play the whole season (you know he's gonnna wanna go to the playoffs so the first half of the season he's not gonna strain himself).
The only team I see making a huge splash this year would be Anaheim, Philadelphia or Toronto. I'm saying Toronto only if they can get another high profile forward to accompany O'Neil & Sundin and also to fill in the void of Roberts and Nieuwendyk.

Toronto has a chance of not even making the playoffs now. Their team is going to struggle this year with their depleted roster.

The only thing that's gonna keep them going is Belfour. We no longer can count on Sundin to be the big time goal scorer as he used to be yet he's still commanding the biggest (or 2nd biggest, next to Eddy) contract. Leafs need to re-evaluate themselves.

Now I'm getting scared that Pittsburgh will be the "it" team this season. They just added Ziggy Palfy to their team.

Actually Gonchar played in Boston the last season and did well there, I hate to lose him, but at least my team picked up Brian Leetch.Im not a penguins fan but they are going to be the team with the biggest changes.I can't wait for hockey to start again, I missed watching the highlights in the morning on TSN.
