Some noteables:

Layne Flack, one of my favorite players, tried to get out of playing on Day A. He was sick as a dog, running a 106 temperature, but they wouldn't let him out.

Chan is out. Chris Jesus Fergason is out. Arieh is out.

Raymer is one of the leaders again, and should be top 25-50 when Day 2 starts. He has well over 40,000 chips, so his repeat bid is well underway.

From what I hear the guy is an absolute wreck ... people say he looks depressed and that he has been clammoring on about the longest cold streak of cards in his life. I imagine his bank roll is dwindling.

Todd Brunson is also out, gone on the first day from group B.

Doyle is playing as I type this ... last I saw he was up moderatly ... but it is early, he has 6-10 hours to go.

Howard Lederer seems to have taken a new approach to playing with amatures. He is making alot of big moves early, pushing in well over 5,000 chips multiple times while the blinds are still 10-20. He was at about 17,000 last I saw.

As for info ... I just browse about 25 different blogs and journals, as well as ESPN, Fox Sports, Pokerstars and others. It is really sad that in this day n age the coverage of this event is so goddamn pisspoor.

I'm sure we can all atest to a cold streak in cards. I am on one right now as well. It happens. But Daniel is too good a player to have it last too long. Inoticed that he hasn't won at all this year where as last year he was on fire. That's poker man. When it goes well, you feel invincible. But when it goes bad, you (me) feel like crying...lol.

As for Hellmuth, he hasn't had all that great of luck since he won the whole thing. He has builkt his rep on that one win. He is still great, no doubt, but he is beatable. As for Gordon, I like him, like his aggressiveness......and of course Doyle is a god, hope he wins it all this year.

Raymer is sitting on over 40,000 ... and Chris Moneymaker is holding on with about 8,000.

Sam Farha, made famous by playing second fiddle to Moneymaker, is one of the chip leaders at like 140,000 or so ...

Very nice for your account. Ride the wave for sure. I'd like to see Raymer and Moneymaker do well this year. One of my fve poker hands is when Moneymker bluffed Farha at the final table and he absolutely sweet you know what. That hand won him the tourney.

Helmuth this year ... it was rough. He is undoubtedly good, ill give him that. He was doing great at the start (he showed up 2 hours late as always) he got his stack up over 20,000. One hand he had AK suited, flop came AA4. He made a bet ... another guy holding A4 moved all in, and Phil LAID IT DOWN. I pray they show that hand. He then lost an all in AK (him) vs KJ pre flop. He wasn't to happy about that one.

Oh and the guy in first place so far ... has more than double second place. He is also banned from over 45 casinos in Europe for counting cards. The guy is suppoed to be absolutly amazing, and is an online shark. He plays, and won his seat, on Pokerstars.

I hope he continues to do well, can't wait to watch him as he is a relative unknown in the mainstream.

I hope this year's final table will have as much personalities and drama as 2003's. Last year's final table was quite anticlimatic, and ESPN pretty much focused its coverage on previous days and other events.

Speaking of last years final table ... Arieh and David Williams (last years 2 and 3) both failed to make day 2.

Though Arieh did win a bracelet this year.
