Nolan adapting iconic source material gives it a very high floor. Great match up.

How did we go from vampires to helicopters to The Odessey lol.
If anyone can revive the historical epic - it's Nolan!

Re: Nolan 2026 Movie With UNIVERSAL - July 17, 2026
Gladiator II is going to end up at $190M with really just nostalgia of the original, no Crowe and Denzel as the only bankable starpower. It didn't have a very charismatic star and lots of flaws and will still almost reach $200M. It still showed what a quality Gladiator sequel could have done.
The Odyssey with Nolan could very well be a Titanic type film at a box office level if done well.
Considering a 10 year re-release made $15M from a shortened and limited release people will at this point follow Nolan in droves to his next film.

 Re: Nolan’s The Odyssey - July 17, 2026
I thought it was meant to be about helicopter pilots. What is going on.
Nolan doing a film about The Odyssey feels so un-Nolan. This is more in Ridley or Wolfgang's wheelhouse.

Kubrick Spartacus (1960) and Dr. Strangelove (1964).
Oppenheimer and The Odyssey over a 3 year period might be following this route?

Well if he's following that route then he's going the wrong way, lol

The genre isn’t his wheelhouse however I think he can do his non linear thing here.

The Odyssey adaptation with Matt Damon gives me a vague whiff of hubristic monstrosity that ends up being a shocking flop, but we shall see. Nolan is the most bankable draw in all of film these days.

 Re: Nolan’s The Odyssey - July 17, 2026
Matt Damon and the other cast scream to me that this will be set in the modern world not the historic one. I also dont see Damon or most of the cast to be frank as fitting of that historic setting.
Edit: then again that would kind of be similar to Megalopolis lol so unlikely

18 months from now seems a bit short if he’s doing a traditional adaptation

It'd be funny if he really was gonna make his vampire helicopter pilot film, but then was so impressed by Gladiator 2 that he scrapped it all and yelled "Matt Damon as Odysseus!!"

There is no way he does that quick a turn around. He takes time with his pre production and story boarding. Probably working on it since last year. That is how his productions are so efficient. Everything is planned out rather than figuring it out during production. All these internet rumors are garbage. They want him to do a horror and he answered diplomatically that he would like to if there is a subject that makes sense but he keeps things under wrap until he cannot. Since now full casting is in swing and they will have to cast tons of Greeks, they cannot keep it under wrap anymore.

Nolan has become the most boring director after Dunkirk that I hope this is a massive failure. I have next to zero excitement for this.
How boring of a person he must be to want to spent this much money on an adaptation of The Odyssey.

Is Tom holland playing Odysseus? Because if so, that’s an interesting (in a bad way) casting decision.

No I’m guessing he’s Odysseus’ son? And Matt Day-mon as the lead.
