This seems like a good candidate for a pseudo remake. I love the arc of Guinness ending up the bad guy (ish) and his scenes with the Japanese guy, but it’s slightly too dated acting style wise compared to movies 10-15 years later, and yes the B plot can be removed.

I participated in a little project on another forum last year asking best movies of 1957 to 1959 and ended up ripping off a bunch of them. My favorite Best Picture of the three was Gigi, although this is also good. Ben Hur is the gayest movie I've ever seen, though unfortunately also boring/long and I couldn't finish it.
