Re: World of KJ Box Office Draft 2023
SolC9 and zwackerm both have $778 million. They are separated by $62,589. SolC9 will overtake zwackerm for second place soon but zwack should get it back when Aquaman opens.

Re: World of KJ Box Office Draft 2023
I was worried that I would have the lowest-grossing first round pick this year, then The Marvels stepped up!
And who knows, Wonka and Aquaman may jump the queue as well.

Algren took MI and The Flash in first two rounds and is still going to beat me easily (I think Migration beats Wish)

A fucking music documentary has just eclipsed a Mission: Impossible sequel. What is this world we live in now? Thank hell for global warming.

You guys can have the superhero or Disney movies next time... Of course when everyone passes on them at some point it becomes tempting

Yay I'm not gonna come in last thanks to Wish bombing! Picking Ant-Man over Mario is an all time dumb decision but this year was so hard to predict that I don't blame myself for the rest.

Re: World of KJ Box Office Draft 2023
I'm gunning for Shack and Flava and hopefully Rev. Not too bad for the batch of films I had.
Algren will get away as looks like Migration will be a solid hit.

Re: World of KJ Box Office Draft 2023
One month left and only four movies left to be released. That feels like a weak, weak December.
Anway, it looks like I'll end up in fifth place.

Re: World of KJ Box Office Draft 2023
I can't get over how much of a failure The Marvels is. It was a first round pick and it won't even make $90 million. It was picked sixth, ahead of Barbie, Mario, Spider-Verse, and even Wonka will make boatloads more.
There were some big flops in 2023, but The Marvels easily eclipses the likes of Shazam 2, Wish, The Flash, and if you really want to be a dick about it, M:I - Dead Reckoning.
Where were the feminists? Fad was over once COVID hit, I guess.

Re: World of KJ Box Office Draft 2023
When Migration reaches $100m, I will be the only player to have four $100m+ picks. Not that it did me a lot of good because none of them exceeded $200m, lol, but still I take pride from it of being able to choose - not hits per se - but successful films.

I should settle about 70m behind Corpse as it looks like Aquaman and Color Purple both have about 40-50m left in them

Re: World of KJ Box Office Draft 2023
Unlucky for Corpse. He will be so close to $1 billion, but I don't think he has enough to get over it.
zwackerm started the year well with some latter-round successes, then came Barbie, but then his draft fell off completely. He finished on a whimper.
I think I will finally grab fifth place with about $700m. Pretty piss-poor really, for an 8-pick draft to not even reach $800 million. And I don't think I'll do much better in 2024 either with ten picks, lol

Re: World of KJ Box Office Draft 2023
A bit of a stat for the snake draft haters:
MadGez picked tenth. He picked Wonka, which will outgross the first pick of the entire draft (MI) and the second pick of the draft (Indy 5) and the fifth pick of the draft (Aquaman) and the sixth pick of the draft (Marvels) and will probably even outgross the seventh pick of the draft (Ant-Man 3).
So going tenth doesn't seal your fate.

So going tenth doesn't seal your fate. Yes, going 10th made me take Wonka as a gamble. Once Spiderverse (my initial pick) was taken - i thought that gambling on a Wonka (possible $200m grosser) was the next best bet along with John Wick 4 which was pick 11. In the end - the only 2 films that were picked later that grossed more were Barbie and Oppenheimer and i dont think any of us expected more than $150m for either. So Wonka was a great choice.

Not bad for me considering my 2nd round pick out outgrossed by each of the next 10 picks My best pick was my replacement pick of Five Nights at Freddy's.

So going tenth doesn't seal your fate. True, but if we had picked correctly the 10th and 11th films (Indy and Dead Reckoning after Wonka passes them, not counting Freedom and Eras which were announced after) would amount to about $355M, less than any of the top 3 movies on their own.

So the big performers were mainly 8th to 20th picks. Incredible.
Mario Bros - 8th pick, 2nd finish Spiderverse - 9th pick, 3rd finish Wonka - 10th pick, 7-8th finish John Wick Chapter 4 - 11th pick, 8th finish Oppenheimer - 12th pick, 5th finish Barbie - 16th pick, 1st finish Hunger Games - 17th pick, 14th finish
Sound of Freedom was a great replacement pick too.
