Re: Predict The Top 10 Fall Films
So I'm feeling even more bullish on Trolls. It's pretty much primed as a movie to be an NSYNC reunion and the band reunited to present at the VMAs. Combined with the Swift Era movie and the heavily NSYNC centric Trolls movie (which apparently also features the other bandmates), seems like the fall calendar will have some big pop music crossover.
Combine Trolls and an NSYNC reunion tour, album, singles, etc. pre holidays could be a big combo.

In the last two days I've seen a new Trolls Band Together poster and sites posting its trailer. It's probably coming out and it'll do well. Not sure it needs stars to promote an animated Trolls movie.

Trolls has the big Nsync push. Looks to be creating some buzz.

Re: Predict The Top 10 Fall Films
Just when you thought this fall was oozing with pop with Taylor Swift's Eras movie, Nsync's Trolls movie, we have... A re-release of Britney Spears Crossroads movie. Quote: It’s playing for just two nights, on Oct. 23 and 25, as part of fan event from Trafalgar Releasing, Sony Music Entertainment and RCA Records. The theatrical re-release is tied to Spears’ upcoming memoir, “The Woman in Me,” which drops on Oct. 24.
“Crossroads” will play in 875 locations across 24 countries and will include a bonus sing-along of two Spears songs that were part of the film but have never been seen on the big screen. The re-release will also include the launch of a “Crossroads” merchandise line featuring movie-inspired tops, sweats and jackets, along with recreations of wardrobe pieces worn by the cast in the film.
Was surprised to learn that Shonda Rimes wrote Crossroads! I'm not sure if this is a Britney authorized move but more likely a studio wanted to take adavantage of the hype around Britney's book. First time made $14,527,187/$37,191,304 domestic. Maybe it will get 500 theaters domestic? Will probably not make a huge box office dent but I like how the early 2000s are coming back to the box office? Maybe we'll get a re-release of Mulan to hear Christina again. https://variety.com/2023/film/news/brit ... 235730173/

There must be a big winner this fall/winter if Marvels and Aquaman are going to flop.

Re: Predict The Top 10 Fall Films
Taylor Eras doing a moderate OW instead opens up the fall a fair bit but it's also a bit alarming as sort of feels like there's going to be some major disappointments this season with Marvels and Aquaman. Would certainly be fun to see Freddy just become massive for box office sake. I'm also all for a random $400M+ movie to show up.

Re: Predict The Top 10 Fall Films
I think there will be a good amount of solid 200 million films. Unlike the summer where all the established franchises really ate into each, the spacing is much better kind of like Guardians and Spiderverse, so it should be better.

I can’t get behind Wonka. I’ll take Napoleon or Wish for breakout.

Re: Predict The Top 10 Fall Films
I unfortunately think Trolls will overshadow Wish’s opening and Migration will cut off its legs. Dumb commercially minded creatively bankrupt animated movies are what sells in 2023, unfortunately.

Re: Predict The Top 10 Fall Films
I still think Aquaman will win the fall by sheer momentum from the first movie. Families go to cinemas en masse like zombies during Christmas and that will be the most obvious choice.

Re: Predict The Top 10 Fall Films
I know its irrelevant for family flicks but Wish has started even worse than Elemental which had terrible start to its presales. That said I dont know what Disney was thinking starting presales for Wish like 6 weeks before release and do it in Eras OW.
I think Five Nights at Freddys will have very good OW. At this point floor is 60m. How much higher depends on how final week ramp up goes. But its on a tear and unlike say Eras which was all about 1st few days of presales and then ran out of audience, Freddys has been on a consistent progress. Its doing well beyond big cities as well. Only issue is lower ATP due to lack of Imax and very less PLF.
Marvels is looking terrible. At this point its looking at sub 50m OW but I am hoping the trend will change in final 2 weeks and open around Indy or Eternals OW.
I am hoping Wonka wins the Oct-Dec time frame. It has a great release date and hopefully the film is very well received.

Re: Predict The Top 10 Fall Films
Indeed that is a great trailer. The poster they released a few days ago isn't great (makes it look about as appealing as 2013's Free Birds) but hopefully the trailers + the Imagination effect will make the difference.

Would love nothing more for Napolean to be a big hit but I just dont know. The actor's trike is hurting films like this. I do think Thanksgiving is going to break out though.

Re: Predict The Top 10 Fall Films
I do think there's a possibility that Napoleon could act as a semi temporary Joker sequel until we get that sequel.
Joaquin in full evil mode. There is a familiar persona there that moviegoers have a lot of esteem for from Gladiator and The Joker.
Sort of how MIB played as a highly buzzed follow up to Smith's ID4 the previous summer in 1997. Summer, biggest new star in the world, same release date, in a buzzy new movie with a nice soundtrack of the summer to back it up.
The big question is Apple. They'll have Moon as well and as a fairly new movie player they may care more about the prestige / streaming revenue eventually vs driving box office grosses anyway.

I feel like Napoleon is a good fit for audiences who are tired of pandering style. I agree the strike hurts though.
