Poor Indy but in retrospect Barrabis is right that doing this with Ford instead of a reboot with Chris Pratt or something was crazy use of this brand, my initial reaction to them actually going through with it was wtf, and then warmed up to the idea after Top Gun 2. Maybe if they had someone young and popular on social media like Zendaya instead of PWB it would have been the perfect compliment. This just goes to show what a miracle Top Gun 2 was. Yeah, casting PWB is definitely an own goal for Paramount. At least with Crystal Skull they tried to court the younger crowd with Shia.

Happy to hear this is still killing in pre-sales, although I hope the other June releases are struggling more because audiences taking the blockbusters one at a time, and not the movies just cannibalizing each other.

I don't think that's a good comparison though, yeah they're both 80s brands but Tom Cruise is a full 20 years younger. Imagine if in 20 years as an 80 year old Tom Cruise was still trying to jump out of a helicopter with a CGI body double. It would be ridiculous. But that's what this new Indy movie is. I think Crystal Skull is the better comparison point to Top Gun 2 since both actors were closer in age and it was also the first revival of the property in decades.

Re: Spider-man: Across the Spiderverse - June 2
Review embargo is up, starts with 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and 86 on Metacritic. That latter number is especially impressive - it's the best for a wide release (not counting platform films that went wide) since Little Women back before COVID, and the best for an American animated film since Into the Spider-Verse. So, looks like WOM should be pretty good for this as well.

Re: Spider-man: Across the Spiderverse - June 2
What's silly is the marketing. I just saw a spot on YouTube claiming that it's a "global phenomenon", which it just isn't. It's a blockbuster movie, but movies have made $120m openings before. It's doing very well, but I think some of the wordage ascribed to it is really trying to make more of it than it is. A global phenomenon was Titanic, was Avatar, was Frozen. This is just another of the year's summer hits. Nothing special.

I honestly can’t get through the first film. I’ve only watched a few clips granted. I honestly can’t believe these cost 90+ to make. Suasage party was better with more stars and only cost 19 million

I wasn’t a big fan of the first but the second is much better.

There we go, it ended its run with 47 days. I wonder if the next Spider-Verse can beat that. Next up on this list will be Elemental.
