Terrific weekend. Nice to see Air hit 20m, should have a decent run even if it costs a lot, better than being direct to streaming...

Top Gun Maverick = middle aged men Black Panther
Super Mario Bros = little kid Black Panther

We need middle aged women Black Panther. Pretty Woman 2?

I don't get the comparison to BP :er:

As Black Panther is the biggest movie ever with black audiences so I was calling Top Gun Maverick that type of ultimate event for men who remembered the 80s and Mario Bros for kids (obviously all three had appeal with every demo, though)

Seems like America is into lowest common denominator right now. They just want to laugh, see their favorite characters doing the things they are known for, and have fun without the controversies of the world hinder on their thoughts. Mindless entertainment is what’s in right now, kinda the opposite of the 2000s when dark and serious was the cat’s meow.

Boxofficepro’s article: “ Only 16% ages 12 and under, unusually low for a film like this, indicating that the film’s nostalgia pitch worked.”

Actual is 15.46m. BO.com is predicting between 86-95m this weekend. Seem to high to me. Let us see where things are this friday.

It's so telling how dramatically bad Super Mario (1993)'s reception was. $20.9M total for the top video game character of the time.

By comparison, the top kids TV show Ninja Turtles pulled a $135,384,756 tally in 1990. It now adjusts to $299,631,986.

That's because TMNT the movie was faithful to the cartoon show. They didn't change the movie drastically from the show.

'93 Super Mario was absolutely NOT faithful to the game. Not at all! Even their trailer says..."This Aint No Game" https://youtu.be/a6Al_DShXX0  I was glad it bombed! deserved it.
