Dynamic Ticket Pricing Escalation
So, last year we started getting some premium fees attached to the big blockbuster movies. I think it started with The Batman, which at my theater was $1 more per ticket than the lower budget movies. At the time, I (and most others) rolled our eyes but said "whatever, it's not so different from normal inflation so who cares?"
Well now, AMC has come up with the idea to start doing dynamic prices for the "better seats" in the theater. Basically, if you want to sit in the middle you have to pay more than sitting on the end, or in the front.
Yikes. On the surface, putting a discount on the front row seats that nobody wants to be in sounds like a great idea. Yet I think we all know that is not what is going to happen. The front row seats will be the same price while the good seats will be more expensive. Perhaps it will just be a $1 more like the blockbuster fee, but I fear this is a slippery slope that will lead to much higher prices than that. Like the front row is $12 per ticket, the end seats in the back rows are $15 and the middle seats in the middle are $18 (Ohio prices, you New Yorkers and Californians will probably be paying a lot more.) Will this eventually lead to ticket scalping for movies? Are we gonna have to deal with scammers just to get decent seats for Marvel movies? And the endgame of course is what's happened with concert tickets, where venues / record labels / ticketmaster will scoop up all their own tickets at market prices and then resell them for much more on the secondary market.
So yeah, I am very much against this. Hopefully it will fail at AMC so the other chains don't try the same thing ... But we know they will.

Tickets should not be increased. I think the $1 surcharge for a new blockbuster is ok. But we need to see films like 80 Gor Brady embracing lower ticket prices
Luckily I go to regal or movie tavern not amc

Ya this seems dumb. Plus besides blockbusters theaters are... kinda empty, not sure what doing this will help.

If you have AMC A-List there's no charge for better seats. This is clearly a ploy to get more people to subscribe to A-list. And honestly A-list is a no-brainer if you have an AMC for your local theater. I don't. I only go to one once in a while. I'd be less likely to now though. They keep getting more and more ridiculous. I hope other chains don't pull this crap.

Yeah fuck this. Same with concerts and I have made peace with never seeing a big arena act again. A concert is a fun experience but it is not worth $750 and sometimes much more. I remember buying Springsteen floor tickets for $140 in 2011, which was a luxury for me, and now some of the floor tickets for his tour next year were going for thousands of dollars. And that was Bruce 10 years ago who was more nimble and athletic. The dude is pushing 80 and wants to charge that much? He can barely sing these days. He's already so rich, how much money is enough for boomers?
I would much rather support local, independent artists or smaller acts playing in theatres that don't have dynamic pricing. Arenas and stadiums absolutely suck if you're not on the floor anyway and no one is worth that kind of money. For $500+ they better be giving me a private concert and a lapdance. Plenty of great smaller artists one can go to to enjoy live music without sacrificing a whole month of rent.
If cinemas want to start doing the same thing then I will be happy to stream the movie illegally online in perfect HQ. I am not paying $20 or $30 to watch something projected onto a wall. No ma'am. I don't care if it's the cinematic event of a lifetime. I watched Mad Max Fury Road on streaming the other day and it was great. Yeah theatres are nice but you can still enjoy the movie at home for free. It's still images on a screen at the end of the day.

This promotes classism. Low-income people/families will be the most affected. Let those who are most interested in a movie and reserve or walk up early have the better seats. Not those with the deepest pockets.
Hopefully there's either enough of a backlash, or decline in attendance at AMC for them to rethink this overly greedy idea.
Concerts, sporting events, etc., do this, but going to a movie is a relatively cheap form of entertainment, something to do on the weekends or just when wanting something fun to do one random evening.

Re: Dynamic Ticket Pricing Escalation
It is a problem but I don't think it called dynamic pricing. Dynamic pricing is like airplane seat or Bruce Springsteen concert ticket where the system trying to detect demand and will adjust the price in real time to match the demand. And I hope we'll never see any cinema doing this.

This will quietly disappear in a few months (if they're not buying Regal).
