19th Annual World of KJ Movie Awards (Due in 30(ish)minutes!
The oscar nominations come out tomorrow and we still don't have a thread going for this, so I suppose its time to get the show on the road.
Best Picture (submit ten nominees here) Best Director Best Actor Best Actress Best Supporting Actor Best Supporting Actress Best Acting Ensemble Best Stunt Ensemble Best Original Screenplay Best Adapted Screenplay Best Animated Feature Best Documentary Best Foreign Language Film Best Cinematography Best Editing Best Original Score Best Original Song Best Makeup Best Visual Effects Best Art Direction Best Costume Design Breakthrough of the Year (before or behind the camera) Best Sound Scariest Horror Film of the Year Funniest Comedy of the Year
As usual, fill out your ballots and send them to me by ... let's say February 12 for the soft deadline, with the ceremony itself taking place the day before the oscars on March 11.
Advice for potential voters: You don't have to watch every movie. Just vote on what you've seen and liked and that will be good enough. If in doubt and you do want to watch more, check the Everyone's A Critic forum and it will be pretty easy to see what the big contenders will be.
So let's go and show those oscars what a real best picture lineup looks like!

Re: 19th Annual World of KJ Movie Awards
Is it OK if I put down multiple films for a person? Such as Ti West for X and Pearl, or does it need to be one film per person?

Hmm I'd say that would be ok in the breakthrough category, but not in direction or writing where it would need to be two seperate entrees.

X came a few months after going digital so it's gotta be coming soon. If anyone still wants to see Everything, Everywhere All At Once that is on there too.

Re: 19th Annual World of KJ Movie Awards
OK. I don't want to waste two spots for her, so I'll ask everyone in this thread:
Which one are you more likely to choose for Mia Goth, Pearl or X?
Same goes for Ti West.
I did also have a double pick for Ralph Fiennes. Personally, I think his performance in The Forgiven is better than in The Menu, but there's no chance anybody will choose that over The Menu. Not even sure if anybody else has seen it!

Re: 19th Annual World of KJ Movie Awards
Luca winning Best Animated Film is the best pick, imo.

Re: 19th Annual World of KJ Movie Awards
Luca does in retrospect look better following the garbage Turning Red/Lightyear/Strange World trilogy. But it doesn’t hold a candle to Encanto

Re: 19th Annual World of KJ Movie Awards
Encanto is loved, but I just have little interest in watching it. The same with Turning Red, Strange World, and Lightyear. It doesn't help when it comes to the KJ Awards' animated film ballot, but gone are the days when I would see every prominent movie by virtue of them being big and wanting to have an opinion on it. I reject so much these days - it has freed up my time greatly!

No ranking in the first ballot, but we rank them in the second (when the nominations are out).

Re: 19th Annual World of KJ Movie Awards
Yes rank your nominations them by preference. First place gets 5 points (10 for best picture), second 4 (or 9 for bp) and so on down the line.

Re: 19th Annual World of KJ Movie Awards
In years past, the first round where people send in their ballots, is not ranked. The second ballot where there is a nominations list, are ranked.

Re: 19th Annual World of KJ Movie Awards
Yeah one ballot for nominees where you rank your favorites.
Then one after nominations are revealed where you pick one.
That's how I did it last time anyways. Pretty sure that's how Dr. Lecter always did it and he was the best at hosting.

Not much more than that. Limited time + the fact that most films are either disappointing or unappealing helps with the reduction.

I'm gonna push the deadline / nomination ceremony to February 15th. This way everyone can enjoy the superbowl and valentines day, but we get our noms out before the new year truly begins with Quantumania.

I can't do it sunday. Maybe Monday. Does that give people enough time to vote for the winners?
