Re: Barbie predictions
Let's not forget A Beautiful Mind. Math can equal big box office! Granted that was Crowe's post Gladiator role so was going to do really well regardless. Let's not discount math for big box office potential. Hidden Figures, The Accountant, Good Will Hunting, a good cast and engaging movie can have potential!

Re: Barbie predictions
Looks decent although I realize I'm not the core target demographic. :-) Margot Robbie will slay.
....as for Oppenheimer - Dunkirk did better than I imagined the subject matter would do. I won't count Nolan out, despite Tenet coming in below expectations.

Re: Barbie predictions
So apparently Babylon needs $250M to break even according to Deadline? $80M production and $80M global marketing budget. Paramount had such a great year other than this. They should have just re-released TGM with new scenes and it probably still would have made more than Babylon will over the holidays.
Barbie at least is a well known IP so feel it's got a better shot.

If M3Gan breaks out they should redo the Barbie trailer and include her as well.

Test screening happened. Apparently it's about Barbie and Ken entering the real world surprised to find it is run by men or something. Sounds awful

The smarter than it thinks it is approach isn't going to serve this well. It needs to offer a fun moviegoing experience. They need to incorporate Aqua's Barbie Girl song into this ASAP.

Sounds awful Honestly getting tired of ultra rich Hollywood women like Greta Gerwig going after the entire male sex aka half of the world because they look at the list of billionaires and CEOs and only see men. But you will never see her making a film about how the great majority of incarcerated, homeless, and suicide cases are also men. I can assure Greta and Margot Robbie (the female Jude Law who inexplicably still gets top billing after an endless string of bombs, talk about privilege) that none of the men they drive past in Los Angeles homeless camps are running the world. And also, all those evil male CEOs have a wife who pushes her husband to do layoffs at his Fortune 500 firm so that he can get a performance bonus and she can use the money to redecorate their guest house.

Re: Barbie predictions
I had always thought this movie was going to be aiming for kids. However, all the marketing so far is pointing towards it being a Gals Night Out type of movie instead. Which ... kinda fits well into the summer schedule. Especially now that The Marvels has moved out.
I think we will see a scenario where Barbie opens at #1, but Oppenheimer sticks around and ends up taking over on its 4th weekend (vs Gran Turismo, second week of Meg and the second Dracula movie of the year .) Though we still don't have a trailer for Meg 2, maybe that will move and cause the summer to reshuffle again.

If Discovery doesn't start spending money on PR - this WB movie will fail like all the others no matter how good (or bad) the movie is...

Re: Barbie predictions
Barbie looks like a stinker to me. It will end up not pleasing anybody.
I'm thinking sub $70m gross.
Oppenheimer will be on the smaller scale for Nolan but should still clear $100m at least - perhaps closer to $150m.

Re: Barbie predictions
The only thing that makes me feel a bit better about Barbie if WB drops the ball on marketing is that Mattel and any toy store really can act as a marketing campaign for the movie. So the opportunity is there since Mattel has too much on the line to see an epic level flop hit its brand.
The problem is, do kids really want to watch Will Ferrell as a toy company CEO? If they go full camp and there's still enough family appeal for kids but fun for adults too its the only possible winning formula here. Going full focus on adults not so much.
A good example I can think of in terms of doing this is Jumanji. It plays well as a kids film, family film but also appeals to older audiences as an adventure film.

Trailer doesn't show much which is fine. Hope the final trailer doesn't shoe much.
Hype is definitely there. I guess we'll see if internet hype will carry over.

I think this will bomb. Margot Robbie has not carried a movie at all and WB wont market it at all looking at how they are doing off late. They are going all in on Flash and ignoring the rest at this point.

Eh I don't think this will bomb. I think this is the film women will flock to and if it's good that'll help. Twitter trending isn't that important but it's currently at #1

Just saw the new trailer. Definitely not my cup of tea but I agree the twitter crowd is excited. Seem to bury even the Spiderverse trailer which I thought is just ok as well. The best trailer today to me is Hypnotic. Looks fantastic.

Apparently you missed the massive marketing blitz today that made this movie the #1 topic on Twitter, even ahead of the Trump arraignment? lol Personally I think this is an easy $100M+ grosser.
