Re: November 23-27 Predictions
Major flop coming. Disney is about to face a reckoning for their poor decisions re: disney plus over the past two years. Even with bad reviews, I think Disenchanted's 5-day opening would be around where Strange World ends up in total.

Re: November 23-27 Predictions
Yeah Strange World seems like a huge flop even before pandemic times. Marketing is pretty bad. Really lame what Disney has done with their theatrical animation brand but that's they're fault.

Why don't you mention Bones and All? I hope Devotion does well. Looks great.

Re: November 23-27 Predictions
Glass Onion imo had a serious shot to win the Thanksgiving weekend if they gave it a bigger and longer release. The first one opened to $27M ($41.4M 5day) but had a multiplier of 6.2. A fantastic leggy hold despite what could have been an inflated Thanksgiving OW. Glass Onion probably could have pulled $60M+ 5day imo along with inflation which may have been enough to edge past BP2 which is decelerating fast.
Note to Netflix, just give it a big release and wider. Report the box office. ALOT of people are still going to watch it again for Christmas!

They could have recouped way more than the budget back with a traditional release. They should have released it theatrically for a month. Still would have been huge when it hit streaming. I'm annoyed I'll have to drive a couple hours to see it in a theater. There's no reason for it to play in just 600 or so theaters.

Re: November 23-27 Predictions
Some Monday #'s starting to come in: Black Adam $590,000 +31% $157,690,309 Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile $340,000 +237% $43,517,876 237% increase from last week for Lyle. If Strange World does better than expected it's purely because families need something other than crocodiles to watch after SEVEN weeks of nothing else.

Re: November 23-27 Predictions
Very rough and bad comparison but only one I could find. Justice League had a $7.5M Monday pre-Thanksgiving in 2017. It made $78.1M from Mon - Sun. If BP follows that path it will be a 10.41 Mon - 7 day ratio for $70.78M or a Sunday total of $357.96M.
That was also JL's 2nd not 3rd weekend so BP2 should be able to top that.

Re: November 23-27 Predictions
Glass Onion seems like not a very wide release, all the theaters near me aren't getting it. Numbers probably won't be reported but would be funny if they're really good that they do.

Re: November 23-27 Predictions
Glass Onion is having a one-week engagement in the UK. It will be at Odeon cinemas, apparently, and they're all over the country. So I would imagine a similarly wide release in the US.

Re: November 23-27 Predictions
Smile should overtake The Lost City before the weekend. And why did Lyle have a 238% WtW increase on Monday? Thanksgiving is Thursday! Anyway, I'm enjoying its holds, and hopefully it has a decent week. It will be above Downton Abbey: A New Era soon, and then it will hunt down Don't Worry Darling and Death on the Nile. It's taking down all the Ds. It's a D Hunter

$15M for 5day for Strange World? Wow that would be so horrendous for a $180M movie.

I want Spielberg to get pissed and make an entertainment-first hit next after his likely second straight flop

Just quickly Googled and it was $135M-180M so usually I go with the top since Hollywood usually gets a bunch of tax credits to bring the "official" budget down.

That is insane for something so generic in an animated genre (sci-fi) that has failed numerous times.

Re: November 23-27 Predictions
Yeah, it's a very hard genre to find success with at the box-office. Is there even a notable success? Can even throw Lightyear into this category too.
Treasure Planet is great though, and Atlantis is pretty good too. If Strange World is comparable, I'd be satisfied.
Maybe Disney should branch out their musical films to include more genres than just (mostly) Disney Princess movies. Could a quality Disney sci-fi-adventure animated musical find success if the songs are good?

I agree that I think its the music that people like about Disney animated films rather than the princess angle. otherwise Lion King wouldn't be their biggest hit adjusted since the 1960s

Both Bones and All and Strange World received B CinemaScore ratings. Very impressive for Bones and All. I expected a C.
