Re: 2024 election
The Trump chaos is the most toxic thing in politics to this day. I can easily, easily see a DeSantis lead ticket overtaking him if he can be the stable version of Trump. I also, still, think that Mike Pence is an under the radar steady hand that could have some real appeal.

The GOP better not fuck up and elect Trump as their nominee

Re: 2024 election
These midterms are a strong indication there's been just enough of a shift away from Trump for the GOP to, hopefully, move past him and that wing of the party. Many of his candidates won their primaries this year, and most of them have lost or are behind tonight in the general. It's not a good look, and certainly not a strategy to bank on come 2024.

Re: 2024 election
Trump already complaining about how people aren't talking about him receiving over 1 million more votes in Florida in 2020 than DeSantis got there this year.
If what I saw being shared on Twitter is accurate. The only downside to Twitter without Trump is that anything people share about him could be 100% real or 100% fake. It's always impossible to tell.

It was a real Truth Social post but I think what he was really going for was implying his election was rigged (by winning more votes than mega blowout DeSantis and losing overall)

They're going to have to go to war with Trump. What a mess they have for coddling him. Trump will never give in, even if they play nice. The entire establishment is going to need to go after him directly as someone who cannot win and eventually consolidate around an alternative.

Will the Democrats drop the legal pursuit because they want to face him now?

I don’t think Garland cares about the politics. If anything he is trying to avoid making this a political thing, which is why he has waited to indite him.

Re: 2024 election
I think it will be funny either way. Trump would get trounced in 2024. But Desantis is just a more far right clone of Trump who would do far worse in the midwest (but better in AZ/NV)

Re: 2024 election
Imo
Biden chance of being nominee: 95%
Trump chance of being nominee: 70% DeSantis chance of being nominee: 20%
After Fetterman winning big the Democrats should not be afraid of Biden age and mental condition in 24.

Re: 2024 election
I have a hard time seeing Trump getting the nominee now. I would put it below 50% and after his poor night last night, I don’t see as many GOP higher ups coming to his aide when he inevitably gets indicted.

Re: 2024 election
I could definitely see a Josh Shapiro run in the future, possibly even 2024. Gretchen Whitmer even (amazing what she's done in Michigan for the Dems)

Trump is the definition of "you broke it, you bought it" for Republicans. He is now basically a useful idiot for Democrats.

Re: 2024 election
While Trump getting back in is an uphill climb for a number of reasons, I don't think the Democrats would have any problem making millennials/Gen Z, college grads and suburban women hate DeSantis and be frothing at the mouth to vote against him.

They don't have to "make" them hate him. He does that on his own, with his shit personality, his trump impression, and his white supremacist policies.

Re: 2024 election
I would put the odds at Trump becoming the nominee at near 0%. Republicans are sick of losing & this guy is the ultimate loser. Of course, Democrats won't like this realization because Trump has helped bring them exceptional success despite some aspects of the Dem party trying their hardest to shoot themselves in foot. Fortunately for the Dems, Biden and Pelosi are exceptionally competent and experienced- lol no, Schumer shouldn't be mentioned alongside them.
As for Trump attacking Ron, Trump looks pathetically weak doing this and is making it beyond easy for seemingly every other Republican on Earth to come after him. This is the definition of self-sabotage and makes me wonder if there is some ulterior motive for him. For example, is Trump trying to flex to get some concessions before agreeing to not run?
But make no mistake - the establishment knows that if they want to win in 2024, Republicans must bite the "end Trump politically" bullet and bite it now. They're going to get names without much of a future ala Chris Christie to do a lot of the body blows and right wing media will ensure it gets coverage. I think it is going to be exceptionally messy- just watch, he is going to pull the "I'll run 3rd party" schtick if/when it becomes clear Republicans are going for someone else. TBH I am sure there are many Republicans hoping he is indicted at this point so they can more forcefully separate themselves from him

After Fetterman winning big the Democrats should not be afraid of Biden age and mental condition in 24. When are some people going to grasp that moderate voters in swing districts in swing states will take the boring but stable, drama-free personalities every time? These people want stability, and economy/crimes are the big threat to that, hence why they're so important. But even more threatening to stability are the bizarre, absurd attacks on democracy. Anyone surprised that someone like Mastriano lost in a state like PA is a certified fool not his subject with hideous analytical skills on this subject. Biden has been stable, drama-free, and frankly has gotten results. It is remarkable that people continue to underestimate what are obviously exceptional political instincts on Biden's part at this time.

Re: 2024 election
I was pretty certain that Republicans had thrown the Governor race back in May. Mastriano’s only hope was for Oz to be such a good senate candidate that he pulled Mastriano up the ballot, but obviously the reverse happened where a bunch of people in swing counties decided to just straight blue ticket rather than vote for Shapiro and Oz
It’s really quite pathetic that Republicans lost Berks, Beaver, Cumberland, and Lucerne counties, but Mastriano was just that bad I bet a lot of people voted D for Governor who had never done so before
