 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
I hope Ticket to Paradise can do at least 15m. 20m would be nice but would be gravy.
Just hope it does well enough to get similar films greenlit

The Rock would have been a better fit in Marvel than DC. Make a joke, save the world is more of his skillset.

As far as international box office goes, Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and the Eternals were rejected by the Chinese Communist Party. It's not a surprise each of those 3 movies failed to gross $500 million at the world wide box office. If Black Adam can play at Chinese theaters, Black Adam could gross $150 million domestically and $400 million internationally.

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
Black Adam has two opposing factors going for it in terms of being shown in China. Firstly, apparently it is anti-imperialism which, despite what China says, they are 100% totally unequivocally imperialist, but to the outside, and as a term "imperialist" has become known to apply to the U.S.A., Britain, etc. so they're for it. So it would play in Chinese cinemas for that reason alone because it adheres to a short-term desire of theirs; to show that a current hegemony is not good.
But on the flipside to that, the film also apparently highlights or supports or presents Arab Springs-style uprisings, and China is dead against that.
So I lean that it won't be shown in China, but that is based on my limited understanding of the rest of the movie. I haven't seen it, I've just read a review excerpt re: the above points.

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
Since Mojo wrote its latest weekend preview (which was in the last 8 hours), Black Adam has gone from the article-cited 54% on Rotten Tomatoes to [now when I just checked] 45%. Ouch. It's not far off Halloween Ends now.
Unfortunately, Ticket to Paradise has also dropped below the Fresh threshold.
And Banshees has lost its perfect score. Bennett Campbell Ferguson from Willamette Week needs to be cancelled, lol

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
Smile will out-gross Scream this weekend, and The Black Phone next weekend. I'm still not sure if it will make $100 million, but that's more about my short-sightedness than its likelihood. I hope it can out-gross Bullet Train.

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
I think Smile will just edge $100m with a couple more weeks of strong playability as HE erodes.
It deserves to after those spectacular holds.

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
I'm fairly confident Smile is almost a lock for $100M+. It will be at $85M or so by the end of the weekend from say an $8M weekend (-35%). It would need a 2.88 multiplier for the rest of its run to get to $100M. With pre-Halloween weekend coming up it should also get a nice boost then. I could see it have a chance at $120M if it holds under 30% this weekend.

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
Yes, looks like a certainty and then some. I hadn't realized it was so close to $80m (as easy to forget how well Scream and TBP did this year). A banner year for horror.

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
I cannot stress how much Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is a disappointment. I keep looking at its numbers but every way I cut it makes it look bad, lol. Its only saving grace is if it legs it out to a respectable total, but I just cannot see it. It's been out for 14 days and still hasn't hit $25 million. Even if it ends with $40m, which is objectively good for an $11.5m opener, it's still ONLY $40m - it's a pittance.
I suppose it hurts more because I so wanted this to be a big earner for my flailing draft prospects. I had banked on it being one of those leggy family movies, reaching $70 million or so. But it opened so low that it would need, like, Finding Nemo legs to even be in the discussion of decent performances. I keep fooling myself that Black Adam will bring family audiences to the multiplexes and the little ones will not want to see it and they will instead opt for Lyle, but I think it's best to just chalk the movie up as a failure, and forget about it.

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
Walkups yesterday were better than expected. I would say at least 7.5m in previews. Its definitely opening above 50m. Probably closer to 60m. That said its BO is a huge disappointment. Most overseas markets have meh opening. Few asian markets have done ok but nothing huge to make a huge difference. if no china release, I am expecting WW total to be 350m which is a disaster for a 200m film.

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
Smile will absolutely make it to 100m. It's not going to just die after Halloween. Only bad horror films do that. I see 120m+

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
The Numbers predicts a $17 million second weekend for Halloween Ends, lol. If it makes more than $10 million I'll be surprised. Expecting a big drop here, like 70% or more. That Thursday was so awful for a $40m opener on just its seventh day.

 Re: October 21-23 Predictions
Smile was doing way better than Halloween Ends around here today. It seems insane to think Halloween Ends would drop so much that Smile beats it this weekend but it did beat it on Thursday. It's entirely possible.

Plenty of good horror movies hold fine after Halloween. The Ring was one of them and Smile is another The Ring. It should hold great the weekend after Halloween but will of course get hit by Wakanda the weekend after. But will stabilize again after that. There's not that much competition after Wakanda.
