I hope they get the 2020 Election conspirators next. Several people have had death threats levied against them despite doing nothing wrong and having their names dragged.

It hasn't been a spotless last half decade on either side (Russiagate being the left's conspiracy theory that fooled them), but ultimately I would rather people be questioning things than taking the government and media's word for it automatically.

I wish right-wing people hated conspiracy theorists half as much as they hate the government.

The stuff the election deniers and Sandy Hook conspiracists are doing is going beyond free speech and going into actual dangerous territory

Especially the more socialist a government goes, it becomes a risk as at some point their utopian vision becomes too important to them to let it be messed up by stupid voters.

Not sure if voters with families from Latino countries will react too well to the combination of high inflation + the party in power targeting its political opponent

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
It was reported earlier this year that Trump took classified documents to Mar-a-Lago. If those records are found (or evidence that they were destroyed in some manner), and I assume the FBI had probable cause to search the residence, then it's a federal crime.
If nothing is found, he didn't break the law and is good. Why the overreaction if no law was broken? As a bonus, if nothing is found, it's a pretty big egg on the face of the FBI.

Also investigations take time. They don’t happen overnight, particularly with someone as powerful as Trump, with half of the political power of this country invested in keeping him out of trouble, and at least a third of the country who will never accept he did anything illegal. This move took balls.

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
for some progressive paranoia: this was a deep state stunt—the FBI and Secret Sevice are both loaded with people loyal to Trump, they won’t turn up anything of significance in the search, which then becomes a galvanizing force of righteous, indignant, mobilizing anger about the corruption and political games “the Dems” are playing, invalidating any and all other potential investigations or charges brought forth in the future. Trump is absolutely loving it.

Extremely, absurdly powerful people don’t go to jail. Especially in a failing state (run by money, not justice or truth)

That’s what I don’t get. The current head of the FBI is a Trump loyalist, if anything, yes Steve, you might be right

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
The right was certainly ready with an organized campaign fundraising message of "If the FBI does this to a former President, they can do it to you too" as soon as this news broke.
Not to lean into this being a conspiracy set up by the right (or left, as some will also *want* to believe) with no evidence, of course. Whatever was taken needs to be firmly criminalizing.
It's certainly a message that'll rile up the base either way. It's a stupid, potentially dangerous message. I hope the law holds anyone breaking the law accountable, and would welcome it to "do it to them too", and thinking otherwise means you'd support criminal activity. I don't care who the heck it is. But it can be an effective message to drive those ~35% or so of conspiracy-obsessed (the left is a cabal of demonic aliens trying to take over the world) folk to the polls even IF something turns up to indict Trump.

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
My first thoughts were that this make sense because of the investigation, but with Trump being the one to announce the raid, being able to control the narrative being his forte as a campaigner, and with the organized response from the GOP, makes me think this was somewhat organized by those loyal to Trump within the FBI.

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
My honest guess is that Trump and those in his orbit were tipped off before the raid happened. It is pretty obvious, and it would be surprising if that wasn’t the case. I doubt anything will come of this due to how Trump is handling this. Will just be used to make the case it is all a witch hunt. Of course, a judge had to be involved in this, but with the DOJ not saying anything, makes me think this was handled by the FBI entirely. Curious to hear from Biden and Garland on this.
