1. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FX, Season 15) - B+

-Sunny returns after a long hiatus, partly because of the plague and partly because the actors all star on other tv shows. It started a little rough as they had to recap what the gang did during the entire quarantine in a Forest Gumpian fashion. Once they get to the Ireland arc it takes off and becomes probably the most unique season in its history. There was a lot of dramatic growth on Whiskey Beer Green Fight Island, a rarity with this group. Yet there were also the usual amount of laughs. My favorite bit was in the vacation planning episode where Charlie can't wrap his head around the idea that there are two different cities in the state of Pennsylvania.

"So we're not going to Pittsburgh?"
"No"
"Because we're already there?"
"No!"

:funny:

I think they announced they next season will be the final one, but I'd be happy if this show just went on forever like the Simpsons.

2. Curb Your Enthuisiasm (HBO, season 11) - C+

-I have really enjoyed the recent seasons of Curb, even more than the early ones in fact. Season 11 just felt kinda lazy though. Most episodes have the same premise of 'Larry goes to see some sort of medical professional and ends up offending them in some way.' And his long-con of ruining his show (and life in a way) just to overturn the pool fence law was very Larry, but also not fun to watch since it over relies on gross-out humor.

There are still a lot of laughs to be had though. Leon breaking up with Mary Ferguson, then trying to find another woman with the same name so that an international plane ticket doesn't go to waste was always funny. Seth Rogan's episode was the funniest he has been in quite awhile. Really anything that didn't have to do with the main plotline, or Larry offending a doctor, was great, but there was just too much of it.

3. MacGruber (Peacock, season 1) - B

-Your mileage may vary with this one. If you're not a fan of Will Forte's schtick then this will not be the project to convince you otherwise. However, if you, like me, do enjoy his shenanigans then this will be fun. Wiig and Phillipe also return! How did MacGruber get Laurence Fishburne but Matrix 4 did not?

4. Dickinson (Apple, season 3) - B-

Putting Emily Dickinson inside a period romantic-comedy was an out-of-the-box idea and I think it mostly worked over the three seasons. Does it get bogged down by CWish relationship drama? Yes. But the actress who plays Sue is So Hot that you can turn your brain off during these scenes. The quirkiness of Hailee Steinfeld, the often times hilarious cameos from other famous writers, her conversations with death (played by Wiz Khalifa) and playing modern party songs over 1800s style parties (knitting!) were great ideas and always welcome.

5. What If... (Disney, season 1) - C+

-Thor In Vegas and Tchalla in Space were both incredible episodes that made this show more than worth watching. The rest ranged from meh to why?

6. Rick and Morty (Cartoon Network, season 5) - A+

-The Rickest Rick and Mortiest Morty return for perhaps their most ambitious season yet. Huge concepts are expertly wielded during every episode. The entire family gets to have fun and there's very little 'see, Rick was right all along just like always' type of endings. Just great writing for ten episodes straight. I look forward to this show going on forever, or at least until Evil Morty's plan backfires and destroys the multiverse.

Survivor: Season 41: B+

Pretty good follow up to the winners at war season with a lot of little gimmicks to make up for no overarching one, the post 2020 season as expected had some race discussions but it seemed pretty genuine. However the edit was frustrating, I thought I had the winner pegged and was stunned when they got 0 votes. Therefore I knock it down from A-.

8. Yellowjackets (Showtime, season 1) - A-

-The first and last episodes were kinda meh, but everything in between was great. Misty is an instant icon but Shawna got up to that status by the end of the season too. It is also refreshingly funny for its dark subject matter.

"There was no book club?!?" :funny:

9. The Book of Boba Fett (Disney, season 1) - B

-A rocky series that found its way over the mountain by the end once our titular character called in a few favors. The last three episodes feel like an entirely different show and I wish it was that way from the start. As is, we'll think of this as a productive pitstop.

10. American Auto (Peacock?, season 1) - B-

-A step down from their previous show, Superstore, but this was still pretty enjoyable. The guy played Marcus on SS and the secretary had the funniest lines.

11. Attack On Titan (season 4.5.1) - B+

-This show has a very loose definition of "final season." This one definitely felt a little dragged out as they maneuvered pieces into place for the big finale ... we hope? Still very good though.

Spoiler: show
My prediction for the end was Eren activating the Rumbling, but since that already happened I'm guessing there is another twist on the way. I'm not sure the world will stop being racist towards Eldians even if Mikasa and Armin stop their best friend at the expense of their own kind. Pretty sure that's what Eren is going for though.

12. Our Flag Means Death (HBO, season 1) - A-

-I think this would have been a great movie too. Hoping it gets a season 2, but I think it ended pretty well if HBO opts out of it. The production is so high quality, every shot looks brilliant. All the characters are fun to hang out and travel to exotic locations with.

13. Killing It (Peacock, season 1) - A

-Definitely the best show in Peacock's shorty history and felt like it would belong on HBO or FX (strange that it isn't!) Craig Robinson, Jillian G and the entire cast really deliver, as does the writing in every episode. Hilarious one liners mixed with dramatic twists mixed with snake hunting. I'm usually not into watching any kind of animal cruelty, but these pythons do eat all the possums and raccoons since those animals have no natural defenses against this apex predator, so fuck em.

The Afterparty: Season 1 - A-

What a great season! Can't believe I didn't even know about this show until less than a week ago, and I'm the one who actually likes AppleTV (that's what I get for downloading instead of actually using their service), it's quite possibly their finest to date. Great mix of comedy and and attention to detail with the mystery clues that all add up in the end, and as expected in this type of plot having the right cast is everything, I knew Tiffany Haddish and Dave Franco and some of my favorites from other shows Ike Barinholtz and Ilana Glazer would deliver, but even the ones I didn't know coming in like Sam Richardson and Jamie Demetriou were great. I'd have given it an A if they had a European art film episode instead of the mostly unneeded cop one. This actually having a Season 2 is bold but why not.

14. Killing Eve (AMC, season 4) - C

The frustrating series comes to an end. I'll never understand the creative behind this show. We have these two characters with sizzling chemistry and its great anytime they're together ... But the writers only ever seemed concerned with finding reasons to keep them apart.

-Forgot to post this one before. As I said in the main thread, I liked the beginning episodes where Stephen was the focus (though they could have used some more intensity) and liked it much less when Marc took over. I think this one would have worked better as a movie.

16. The Minx (HBO, season 1) - B-

This was pretty funny with solid performances from the two leads a cool early 70s vibe. It can be a bit heavy-handed (and I'm not just talking about all the dicks), and Jake's character goes from one extreme to another way too often (sometimes he is 100% supportive and others he is 100% power hungry.) I'll probably give the second season a chance if it happens.

-Turns out that Cassie Bowden is just as much of a mess when she is not drinking, but I sure do love watching her stumble her way through murder mysteries.

Obi-Wan Kenobi - A-

Westworld Season 3 - F

It took me 2 years spread out over 3 attempts but I finally finished the terrible Westworld season 3, which for some reason decided 3 seasons in to not just add Aaron Paul but make him the main character, and then assume I care about his backstory or what happened to his dead friend as the season's main mystery box. They try to make a season about how the humans are in loops like robots, except the human world dystopia where everyone is controlled by an all knowing supercomputer feels nothing like our current world, if anything it's less relatable than the park was, and seems set as far in the future as it was pretending to be in the past. They expect the humans being freed and civilization blowing up to do it to mirror the robots destroying Westworld to be free in season 2, but the only reason human race was in that box in the first place is the showrunners created it just to get to the point where they could free them and make that comparison to the robots. Whatever. I guess I'll still watch the first episode of season 4 at least.

Obi Wan was surprisingly great and maybe the best Star Wars since the prequels (and it probably had the best Star Wars fights ever). All of this despite a surprisingly low feeling budget.
