 February 11-13 Predictions
Death on the Nile 19m Marry Me 13m
I really wanna see Death on the Nile, but Murder on the Orient Express had a mixed reception, it's no longer coming out close enough to Knives Out to get a boost from that, and older audiences still seem like they aren't back to the theater.
Marry Me should have a really strong Monday the 14th and soft Sunday drop to maybe propel it to low teens despite being day and date on Peacock..

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
I mean the Sunday drop for Marry Me might be softer than other male skewing movies but nothing has a soft drop on Super Bowl Sunday.
Nile will fall somewhere in the 13-16 Million range I'm thinking. Marry Me 7-9 Million. Being on Peacock and streaming sites won't help it. People going out for Valentine's Day will give it a boost though. Blacklight will probably bring in 3-4 Million. Trailer came really late for it and I still haven't seen the trailer with anything.
Will be interesting to see how much Oscar nominees expand. Licorice Pizza should see a big one. They've been waiting for nominations. Won't be surprised with 1,800-2,100 theaters.

Marry Me being on Peacock is annoying as someone who drafted it

Marry Me Being on a Peacock would have been a better movie title.

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
Would be nice if Death on the Nile does 20m+ but I'll go with like 13. Marry Me... probably 7-8. Also saw some Liam Neeson movie is coming out, haven't heard a peep about it

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
Death on the Nile is a big victim of the pandemic. If it had released as planned in 2019 or 2020, I could've seen it easily match Murder off the strength of similar film Knives Out.

Armie Hammer impact is probably a lot worse than the pandemic for Nile TBH. Let's hope Gal Gadot can pull some people in.

It certainly doesn't help but I honestly doubt a lot of the older adult audience this is aimed at even knows about it. It is a shame they couldn't have gotten it out before the pandemic and before that scandal. Older adult audiences not coming back to movies in big numbers yet is what will really hurt this right now.

The majority of people do not know anything about Armie Hammer, he was a b list celebrity at best.

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
Reviews are decent for Nile. I'm actually kind of excited for it. Sounds fun. I need to watch Murder on the Orient Express first though. Not like that would be a requirement but I probably should.

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
The first one had decent legs to get to $100M+. Different time and 4.5 years later but this could surprise if adult audiences still showed up to theaters.

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
I doubt the Armie Hammer thing will damage this at all. The bigger issue is whether enough adults will go out to see this.
Should still be good for a $15-20m OW and good legs to $60-$80m

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
Encanto is the #1 song again and has topped the album chart for 4 weeks.
The last time a soundtrack and a song have topped the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 simultaneously for more than one week was 2003 with “8 Mile” and “Lose Yourself.”
They should just release a musical singalong version to theaters to get this past $100M. Disney could be printing $$$ right now from this.
Encanto's sequel is going to be MASSIVE.

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
When it can be watched at home on D+ who the hell is going to go to the theater and watch it with people singing along? That would be annoying. And you can just put the subtitles on at home to sing along. It's not like a lot of young kids would be able to read the lyrics anyway. Really don't think it would get it past 100 Million. They could certainly try a regular re-release. There's nothing new for kids anyway.

The Bad Guys really should move up to March 18. If anything the no family film for a looong time will likely help Sonic.

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
Licorice Pizza will be in 2,000 theaters this weekend. West Side Story jumps from 800 to 1,500. Belfast from 390 to 920. Nightmare Alley goes from 705 to 1,100-1,200. Dune goes from 300 to 500-600. Drive My Car adds just 20 for a total of 120.

Hope they do well Sidenote, my local theater has had the B&W version of Nighthmare Alley for weeks. I would’ve taken myself to see the color version on cheap Tuesday. but the random B&W edition is such a turn off. I also feel like I “should” go see Power of the Dog in the cinema, but…..

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
I really hope I'll get the chance to see Power of the Dog in a theater. Seems better suited for the big screen. If not I'll definitely watch it on Netflix before the Oscars.

 Re: February 11-13 Predictions
Death on the Nile and Marry Me didn't really do any better than Moonfall did last Thursday around here. Which is fine for Marry Me. Nobody was really expecting double digits from it. But that's not good for Death on the Nile. Since it does skew older matinees this weekend will probably do decently. But honestly with the Super Bowl on Sunday I'm thinking low double digits if it makes it to double digits at all. People celebrating VD over the weekend could certainly give movies a boost though.
