SCREAM
New trailer just came out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beToTslH17sIt looks really good imo. I think this has a good chance for $100M+ and if nostalgic kicks in $150M. It is giving me IT vibes. Definitely looks more redeeming than some of the last films.

Re: SCREAM
Why did Scream 4 and American Reunion flop? Feels like every other 90s nostalgia project has been huge.

Even with 11 years there wasn't as much demand on that one. Think we are far enough from the original that they can make a good quality late 90s reboot (that surpasses Netflix's She's All That re-boot ).

Why does this have the same title as the original?

Re: SCREAM
I think bringing back the old characters is a mistake after what happened to Scream 4. I'd have gone full reboot.

Re: SCREAM
Yeah probably would have been better to reboot, then bring the original cast back for that sequel. It's not like they could ever get the full team back since Wes Craven has merged with the infinite.

Re: SCREAM
While I really dug the 4th the marketing didn’t do it any favors, the style of humor was dated. I really dig that first trailer. I don’t see it setting the world on fire, scream was definitely a bubble franchise, but I’m always down the for another chapter in this elite franchise, especially if it is a darker take

Re: SCREAM
^90s nostalgia had not kicked in whatsoever back in 2011.
Also - Ttat is a terrible edited trailer. The opening with the phone isn't creepy at all and just cringeworthy. Horror trailers depend on atmosphere ala IT in 2017 and HALLOWEEN in 2018. That isn't a good trailer at all.
Also the house at the end is clearly Stu Machers house from scream 1

Re: SCREAM
I like the cast but the trailer isn't good. As Excel mentioned the opening scene isn't creepy at all. This can do well and I hope it does, there is a potential of a very good slasher reboot out of this series they just need to nail the atmosphere and thrills.
January is a good slot for opening so I will go with $30m/$70m

Re: SCREAM
Maybe it's just me, but I think the Scream series was always mocking the genre a bit so I think the campiness and similarity to the Drew Barrymore scene will appeal to fans of the franchise. The campy horror is part of the appeal though I know it won't be an IT type of scary.

Re: SCREAM
Yes but that scene is not handled well in the trailers, plus that scene had been done to death in many movies so nailing it down in this trailer was most important even if they have to spoil the whole scene.

Re: SCREAM
I think it's handled well, it's not scream without that scene just like you need a somebody waking up in a sewer by fluorescent lights in every Saw trailer. And it could easily be a fake out scene just like how the last one opened with Stab parodies. I'm actually surprised they went with the power locks and not RING. That's still a long way off from being popular, so I'm thinking parody. I mean who the hell still has a land line anymore? I'm betting that's a STAB reboot. They're certainly not going to show the main opening scene in a trailer.

Re: SCREAM
Then makes a good point about the stab reboot. My general thought is was just too quick. The editing it very poor. No atmosphere at all

Re: SCREAM
I stand by my assessment. If it's Stab comedy then it shouldn't have been in trailer because the rest of it looks super serious and that would definitely lead to poor WoM when the film opens.

Re: SCREAM
Stab comedy is still played seriously. It's not like the opening scenes in Scream 4 weren't well done. They were only funny because they were fake outs. The trailer is getting a really good reaction, and people are responding to the "doors unlocked" thing pretty well.
Did we see Heather Graham in that trailer or was that Marley Shelton? I think both are returning and if it's Graham who played fake drew Barrymoore. That brief snippet seems more likely the opening scene. If the Scream films have ever taught me anything, never trust the marketing, that goes all the way to part 2 when the trailers made it seem Randy is the hero. They also have a TV show that they could be mocking.

Re: SCREAM
Bringing Randy back would be the one nostalgic thing Scream 4 did not do. I'd be all for it. Even if he is a robot or hologram.

Re: SCREAM
Omg they better not do anything like that. Randy was great but they killed him off. Bringing him back for nostalgic reasons is one of the worst things they could do.
Looks like the killer is targeting the original killers’ families, so I wonder what the “motive” will be? Someone that had a relative killed in the original movie?

I think Omicron isn’t gonna affect this movie. However, since Scream 4 bombed, I can’t imagine this will do much better.

Re: SCREAM
Mmm idk. I remember how surprised I was when Scream 4 came out and it opened "low". If this opens above that then that'd be fine tbh but I could see this disappointing.
