Don't Breathe 2 - 4.365m

If this is inflated due to Friday the 13th might not hit 10m.

Great numbers for both. Don't Breathe might also be rush factor from fans of original plus the fancy days release. Free Guy has chance for $25m+ from this OD.

So Starpower is indeed the secret ingredient for the covid box office era. Every movie that has met expectations or over performed has had a legit A-lister in it (Reynolds, Blunt x2, The Rock, ScarJo, Emma Stone, Vin Diesel.) But when the draw is behind the camera the movie falls short (James Gunn, Lin Manual Miranda, M Night.)

Yeah honestly that's what I was thinking. This always looked like a high teens opening at best to me. Strange.

Hopefully it plays well to get to 100m.

The Suicide Squad is looking at a 70%+ drop. Fucking embarassing. Day and date for free hopefully dies.

I would have considered this a low opening in normal times but considering recent ones, solid success

Well, it certainly benefitted from a super-exposure marketing campaign. It was nearly impossible to not come across a TV spot, online ad, or the trailer over the summer. Probably the most advertised film I've seen since the pandemic began.

Day and date for free has nothing to do with demand. GvK did really well in this format. I'm not saying that release strategy is great but a lot of TSS's results is because it looked like something nobody asked for.

DC screwed themselves between 2013 and 2017 that they are still trying to repair the damage

Maybe the streaming numbers for Suicide Squad are much better? It seems like the kind of film that people would check out on streaming but not go to a theatre for.

Also I don't buy the idea that the original was THAT hated. It had surprisingly ok legs after the second week drop.

Sparrow is right that it was not asked for (though, since it is the best movie of the year, thank goodness no one listened to me about it!) and that it is the biggest issue.

But this isn’t the first time someone has said “let’s make a sequel to a Will Smith movie without Big Will” and later regretted it. At least this Suicide Squad wasn’t a complete embarrassment like Resurgence and International.

I would like to add "arguably" in terms of best movie of the year. Most people around me hated it and some didn't even finish because of that absurdly unfitting and very long killing-in-the-jungle joke.
