... welp.

The main "big" releases are:
Cruella
A Quiet Place II
Conjuring 3
In the Heights
Fast 9
Top Gun: Maverick
Jungle Cruise
Black Widow
Space Jam 2
The Suicide Squad
Free Guy

... so what will gross over $50m? $75m? Will Black Widow defy the odds and open with more than $40m?

Still seems to early to know for sure how vaccination will affect things. I’d bet Black Widow will be the first to gross 100m total

I hope something moves to Black Widow's May date. Disney literally could've just released King's Man, not long that's hotly anticipated.

Top grossing film will be Demon Slayer. It's up to us Americans to push it over The Eight Hundred.

Wrath of Man starring Jason Statham, directed by Guy Ritchie takes Black Widow's date. Sure.

I think In the Heights will be a bigger hit on HBO Max than in theaters.

I think In the Heights will do well. I'm thinking low 20s opening.

I’m not a musical person at all and I’m pretty hyped for ITH. That Disney+ Hamilton release was the best advertising it could get.

I want to watch it for sure but I don’t know if I’ll see it in a theater. I want to but it’s free on hbo Max which I have for 3 months so...

Already have my tickets for In the Heights! So excited to see it on a Dolby screen. I think it’s going to smash.

Agree. That would be a great opening given that it's available on HBOMax as well

It is difficult to predict legs in the current era. But I will try my best.

Conjuring 3 - $23 / $55M

In the Heights - $28M / $85M

Fast 9 - $77M / $180M - bad wom in China, but might just be because of the John Cena controversy?

Top Gun: Maverick - not releasing

Jungle Cruise - $15M / $50M

Black Widow - $50M / $200M - I want to see this in theaters, but I'll probably buy it as soon as 3am hits despite my pledge to not pay over $6 for rentals anymore (Spiral being on itunes right now will test that too).

Space Jam 2 - $50M / $125M - maybe too optimistic with the HBO Max release, but this is the most anticipated movie of the summer according to my social media timelines (90s kids LOVE Space Jam)

The Suicide Squad - $66M / $150M

Free Guy - $25M / $90M

Old - $35M / $100M

Hotel Transmania (is this going to be about a vampire becoming a werewolf?) - $35M / $120M

Snake Eyes - $17M / $40M - this would probably do even worse sans covid

Candyman - $50M / $180M - we should be back to normal by this point .. maybe?

I'm not a fan of LeBron. I really hope it doesn't do that well. I enjoyed the first, but that was because Jordan was awesome and way more fun to watch than anyone else at the time, and it had Bill Murray.

In The Heights should be huge. The thing that could hold it back is HBO Max. I finally broke down and got Max and have watched the Friends Reunion, Greenland, WW84, and the 4hr Justice League. I'll be watching In The Heights right away when it comes out. If I'm really into it, I'll see it in the theater as well. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if it made over 100M at the box office.

The only other movies I want to see on that list are Black Widow, Suicide Squad, and Free Guy. I'm not paying premium for Black Widow at home, that will be a theater movie. I was meh on the first Suicide Squad, so I'm not sure if I'll see that in the theater. Free Guy just looks fun and I'll see it any way that's available.

Conjuring 3 20/50
In the Heights 45/160
Fast 9 100/200
Jungle Cruise 40/105
Black Widow 120/270
Space Jam 2 40/120
The Suicide Squad 70/200
Free Guy 25/60

I don't see how Black Widow opens less than Fast 9 now given that Cruella managed to open with $21.5m with big competition. BW will surely have bigger marketing, more appeal, way better brand name AND Fast 9 would have set the benchmark by then for movie going public.

Conjuring 3 is doing very well in my area... if it does over $25m that'd be very good.

Yes BW should bear out Fast 9. Maybe some are concerned over BW’s Disney plus release impacting OW?

Yeah I'm looking at some showtimes in my area it doesn't quite have sellouts but it is close to sellouts in a lot of screenings, and they've added more over the course of the day. I think the pessimism surrounding it might have been unfounded (but we'll know for sure in 13-15 hours).

C3 may be closer to $30m if it's walkups are excellent. I hope In the Heights will breakout next weekend.

Yeah Conjuring universe still has good pull. Aside from stupid scheduling I hope audience does up for it as I'm sure it's trailers would have featured before AQP2.

Weirdly enough it wasn't with AQP2 at mine but it had been with pretty much all of the other movies I was seeing before that.
