With these relatively smaller numbers DS would not have stayed in Top 10 much less Top 5 when looking at a regular year. Its weekends haven't been so low to not be out of the Top 10 normally. ¥25/30 million is pretty common for the bottom couple spots in the Top 10. That amount has allowed films to get closer to the Top 5 though, mostly because of Hollywood releases still being delayed which I wouldn't count as an "unfair" advantage considering Warner Bros. is releasing films and all theaters have been opened for nearly a full calendar year now (mid-June 2020), besides recently in Tokyo/Osaka. It's been the choice of the non-WB distributors to not be releasing films for quite awhile now, which is different than this time last year when all theaters were closed and took a couple months for all of them to reopen. And it's been Disney's choice to do the same-day release on Disney+, which resulted in major theater chains boycotting their releases, thus killing their theatrical runs before even beginning really. But its run inside the Top 5 has been bolstered the past couple weeks, so I'm going to place an asterisk on that list. I agree that Top 10 might have been achievable but then again it might have slipped past that list once or twice (due to amount of releases) and came back. For now I agree the Top 5 should be the one that needs some classification.

Today is the last day of the Golden Week in Japan and Gotouge's birthday. I wonder if more fans will see the movie to celebrate this occasion and make Rengoku become the 40 billion man soon

We've to accept this fact and not think in the other way around like "hey, it's amazing when you consider that Japan is currently under state of emergency"...... Just kidding! These are amazing number nonetheless! Though the 40 billion threshold won't be crossed in this month.

40B will happen most likely by June and that's fine. Good publicity before home media release.

I started Demon Slayer series. Binged 8 episodes yesterday. The anime style will take time getting used to but as long as plot is strong will do fine for me. So far will say 7/10 ish stuff.

Yes it is BUT given the excitement of the crowd here I am trying to be conservative so as to avoid the meltdown in the worst case.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2021 - Daily Estimates
And that concludes Golden Week 2021!
I want to wait until actuals start coming in tomorrow before making any new projections or predictions for everything since estimating a full week can leave more room for error than normal. However, there was a good bit of concern heading into the holiday period that it might underwhelm with theaters closed in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Hyogo, and while the numbers themselves are lower than normal, the percentage increases are as strong as expected during this period, and the holiday period certainly performed better than expected.
Just note that because of the holidays taking place from Monday-Wednesday, delaying any reports until tomorrow (Thursday), that it's likely we won't get the full actuals for the Top 10 released. The totals are usually released (unless by small, independent distributors), but the weekend grosses themselves are often just released for the top few films when a major holiday period delays the results for so long.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2021 - Daily Estimates
Their estimates (ALL numbers are estimates right now by the way, no one has any actual data) are more or less the exact same as mine yesterday, so looks good to me. That person is estimating ¥39.875 billion yesterday, while I had ¥39.876 billion. That's essentially no difference.
Actuals will start to come in tomorrow.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2021 - Daily Estimates
Looks a bit too high to me right now. Their predictions are assuming the SOEs will be lifted on May 11th, but even is they are, they have each week in May earning about the same (around ¥50 million each week). It could stabilize around a certain figure on a weekly basis in its final weeks, but a gradual decline (like, ¥50m > ¥40m > ¥30m) should be the expected path until we see how the numbers actually come in.
The chances of the SOEs being extended are pretty high though (especially in Osaka since it still has the highest number of cases and hospital capacity strain) due to the Olympics approaching, so they'll have to lower their predictions a little. Cases have dropped a bit and aren't exactly high and are below the peaks from last Winter, especially compared to other major countries, but they'll want to get the cases in Tokyo down from its current 700/800 a day average to 200 or 300 (or less) again, and national cases down from the average of 4,000/5,000 a day to 2,000 or so before June or ~60 days ahead of the Olympics in order to help with local and foreign support to have them. I also think it's a near-certainly now that they games won't have local spectators either (foreign were already banned), so they'll be zero spectators for the games this year.
And extending the SOEs through the remainder of May will be "okay" for theaters since May is one of the weakest months of the box office once Golden Week ends. Affected theaters will request more compensation in return for staying closed longer (legally, they don't have to follow the SOEs) of course, as they did before the recent SOEs (only announcing they'd close in the targeted prefectures 8 hours before they went into effect), but it'll be a more reasonable request than before a holiday week or more lucrative month.
I personally think it'll hit ¥40 billion sometime in the last week of May, and probably conclude its run around ¥40.05-¥40.10 billion.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2021 - Daily Estimates
Yes I think the same, it should finish its run around ¥40.1Bn ($383M) and 29.1 million admissions. Or maybe there will be a last last event. I don't know.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2021 - Daily Estimates
I wouldn't anticipate any kind of events at this stage since it's going to cross ¥40 billion naturally. And while the giveaway events over Spring Break helped make this happen, they also showed that after 6 months of release (or 5 months then) that there's a maximum amount of times the core fanbase may be willing to come out again.
Presumably, given the events and the premium format expansions throughout its run (which always resulted in big boosts when they occurred), the core fanbase probably saw this movie 6-8 times in theaters. I think everyone is looking forward to owning the movie now and looking forward to next month's home video release.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2021 - Daily Estimates
Well, I was wrong! It was just announced that there were plans for another giveaway (an A5 illustration from ufotable) on May 10th to commemorate Rengoku's birthday. No doubt this was the date they were wanting to get it to ¥40 billion.
However, they've postponed this due to the SOEs and will announce the new distribution date as soon as they can.
