Excellent Sunday numbers (estimated of course).

And the next three days are all national holidays, and each day should more or less come in somewhere around the results from the past two days if you want a rough preview of where any film may wind up after Wednesday.

So, DS will end up in around 39.89 billion, right?

So Conan will be falling behind its predecessor this week. Any chance it makes up for it with better holds once theaters re-open after GW is over?

I'd say so. It'll have a strangle hold on the biggest screens until at least June 4th now that Godzilla vs. Kong got moved out of May. And it still hasn't had its stage greeting showings, which are usually guaranteed sold out showings. And just in general, in part due to some films getting pushed back and little/no Hollywood releases, it'll likely have more longevity in theaters through the summer months.

It's too early to say whether or not it'll become the top grossing film in the franchise, but there's also no reason to really rule it out yet given the unusual circumstances.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2021 - Daily Estimates
And that Monday is what a Golden Week weekday looks like when one of the four national holidays of the holiday period lands on them.

Golden Week is one of the only times of the year (along with some days during New Year and Obon Festival) that many in the country have the time to go out and see a movie without compromising school or work, so when one of the holidays during said week lands on a weekday, they come out big.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2021 - Daily Estimates
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are all national holidays this year during Golden Week, so the weekend actuals won't be released until Thursday. And given this prolonged delay, the released actuals will likely be scattered a bit (common when holidays delay figures beyond Tuesday). The top films will likely be updated, but some of the lower earners may go unreported this week.

**: Run in the top 10 bolstered by numerous spring/summer 2020 delays in response to Covid-19.

You know... While it's been helped by a few delays (3 notable films) in the past couple weeks, it may very well reach 30 weeks in the top 5. Questing if I should include an asterisk for this list since unlike the Most Weeks in the Top 10 list (where the recent delays of a few films wouldn't have had any impact on its time in the Top 10), they have assisted it in staying in the Top 5.

*: Run in the top 10 bolstered by numerous spring/summer 2020 delays in response to Covid-19.

Demon Slayer hasn't had to worry about falling out of the Top 10 to the point that the recent delays (3 notable films) would have bumped it out if they had been released, but Loved Like a Flower Bouquet has benefitted from the delays by being near the bottom of the Top 10 the past two weeks (one of them was likely earned though). If it gets one more week in the Top 10, I'll add an asterisk to it.

Also, it's probably fairly safe to presume Demon Slayer will stay in the Top 10 until its home video release on June 22nd. So, we can probably expect 36 weeks (34/35 worse-cast I'd expect).

I do think an asterisk should be added something similar to Parasite from last year. With these relatively smaller numbers DS would not have stayed in Top 10 much less Top 5 when looking at a regular year.

Its weekends haven't been so low to not be out of the Top 10 normally. ¥25/30 million is pretty common for the bottom couple spots in the Top 10. That amount has allowed films to get closer to the Top 5 though, mostly because of Hollywood releases still being delayed which I wouldn't count as an "unfair" advantage considering Warner Bros. is releasing films and all theaters have been opened for nearly a full calendar year now (mid-June 2020), besides recently in Tokyo/Osaka.

It's been the choice of the non-WB distributors to not be releasing films for quite awhile now, which is different than this time last year when all theaters were closed and took a couple months for all of them to reopen. And it's been Disney's choice to do the same-day release on Disney+, which resulted in major theater chains boycotting their releases, thus killing their theatrical runs before even beginning really.

But its run inside the Top 5 has been bolstered the past couple weeks, so I'm going to place an asterisk on that list.
