Re: Japan Box-Office: Records In Sight For Detective Conan 2
Surprised that in usual locations DC24 got lower admissions than past three DC movies but that could just be because more theaters are showing this so people don't have to travel to these locations and can find a screening nearby and "non-usual" locations.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Records In Sight For Detective Conan 2
Well, the franchise trend has been for the new DC to come in lower than its predecessor on Saturday, but higher on Sunday and the overall weekend. On Saturday, DC23 came in lower than DC22, DC22 came in lower than DC21, but the exact opposite happened on Sunday and the weekend (DC23 > DC22 > DC21).
I don't think this year's film is following that though, or at least it's sort of hit the point of stabilizing it.. It's going to be almost identical to the last film at the usual locations (might even beat it), suggesting it beat for the day due to having more theaters elsewhere.

It's only a 44% increase projection based on the previous installment's admissions. He's an official source, although it's unclear if he's talking about revenue or admissions. It's safe to assume revenue though since he gave the Friday figure of ¥608 million, but most reports like this do talk increases in terms of admissions. We can probably use the 44% jump in revenue on Friday though to help predict the weekend

I'd wager the Saturday => Friday switch probably explains that trend.

Yeah.
And interestingly, when domestic films began to open regularly on Friday versus Saturday a few years ago, it didn't negatively impact the opening weekends (still Saturday and Sunday only) at all; rather, you can make an easy argument it helped them with increases becoming more likely (Sundays especially became stronger). And not just Detective Conan, but all films in general aside from the very, very fanbase-driven franchises with basically no casual appeal (and they still tend to open on Saturday because of that unless in or around a holiday period).

Re: Japan Box-Office: Records In Sight For Detective Conan 2
Also, there are 6 theaters missing from Conan's count in the Saturday updates at the usual locations today (255 have been reported versus the 261 count). They might be calculated in when the day concludes, but if it does narrowly miss last year's film by 2,000/3,000 admissions at the usual locations, chances are it either matched it/slightly outperformed it at them, and almost certainly nationwide.
And again, very important to remember this year's film is playing in a lot more theaters outside of the usual locations. It's very reasonable to expect at least a small portion of business that the usual locations may normally see is occurring over at them.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Records In Sight For Detective Conan 2
Normally I have the final update and related lists and such posted almost immediately as the day concludes when tracking big films like this, but I'll have to put that off for a few hours today.
I have to drive to one of my stores and fix a payroll issue. (Already missing working from home more!)

Re: Japan Box-Office: Records In Sight For Detective Conan 2
Yeah moviewalker didnt mention admits, just gross.
Sat come around 330K. Was a good call in morning. Though I would have prefered being wrong and it come around 400.
I guess around 575K admits for Sat and 800-830M gross. A 20% growth will see it at 960-1000M Sunday and 2368-2438M 3 days weekend.
Potter 5 has 3 days "non-DS" weekend record at ¥2,279,300,000. That should be done.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Records In Sight For Detective Conan 2
Thanks to @Corpse, we have observed the success of KNY movie for the past 6 months. Looking at this massive success, I feel embarrassed when I sent the letter to Ufotable in March 2020 and suggested them to release the movie on streaming services (happened to Troll World Tour and old Ghibli movies at that time). Moreover, Ufotable just delayed Heaven Feel 3 Spring's Song and the pandemic began to wreak havoc around the world. Mar 26, 2020, 5:32 PM
Dear Sirs or Madams,
According to your announcement yesterday, Heaven's Feel III Spring song will be rescheduled until late April due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For that movie, it is too late to do anything now; however, you still have opportunities to save Kimetsu no yaiba mugen ressha-hen.
As a long-term fan of Ufotable movies, I have a bold suggestion: instead of releasing Kimetsu no yaiba mugen ressha-hen in theaters, please selling the movie to streaming services as a whole or several episodes. I suggest this option because of the following reasons:
1. Firstly, no one surely knows when this pandemic ends. Even though it will end soon, a global recession will follow as the pandemic's consequence. When the economy goes down, the entertainment industry suffers the most. People will prefer essential products to anime/manga. Normally, your revenue mostly come from anime figure projects and goodies from movies. The later you delay the movie, the lower revenue you may earn.
2. Secondly, the manga nearly finishes. When it ends, the hype will vanish, too. If you decide to release Kimetsu no yaiba mugen ressha-hen at the end of 2020 or in 2021, your promoting costs will be expensive. On the other hand, if the movie is broadcast on streaming services now, the marketing costs will be more affordable because Shueisha is also promoting the series. Ufotable's movie can get widespread effects without spending too much on marketing campaigns. The sooner the better.
3. Thirdly, with nearly 2 billion people on lockdown, streaming services are on high demand. In order to attract more customers, streaming service companies are competing each other for better programs. With Ufotable's reputation and the hype of KNY right now, you have a good position to negotiate with streaming service companies. If you choose to release the movie on theaters, you may receive loss due to uncertain numbers of moviegoers. On the contrary, you can reach break-even point at least if you decide to offer the movie on streaming services.
Finally, I hope you will pardon my suggestion if you feel annoyed. I deeply express my concern because I love your movies so much. Last year, the company had a financial scandal, then Ufotable is facing the coronavirus pandemic this year. I do not want a great anime production company like you collapse.

Very strong. Slight annoyance that it was missing 6 theaters from the calculation, but we know it'll come in a tad higher because of that.
Let's see what happens on Sunday. The past two films saw big gains on Sunday, but this year is different, so it'll be interesting to watch. And despite the films dropping slightly from each other on Saturdays, they've continued to grow on Sunday and surpass the last for the weekend frame.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Detective Conan Daily Performance
Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet - Daily Performance TrackerFri.: ¥608,000,000 ($5.6 million) / 400,000 *gross = rough act. / adm. = est.* Sat.: ¥775,000,000 ($7.1 million) / 560,000 *est.*Just a reminder: Rough estimates here for the first full week so we can gauge its daily patterns and average ticket price. (Not to mention the more unique aspects of this release like the theater count). I also like to be conservative when making estimates (always nicer to see actuals come in higher). Doesn't mean it WILL come in higher, just keep it in mind as I don't often over predict very much. As long as it has a similar performance on Sunday as the last two films, it should set a new franchise record. I feel pretty good about it doing so in revenue (due to the premium boost), but admissions is probably going to be close. Also, the 3-day is almost certain to break the franchise record due to Friday coming in so high, and could very well achieve the highest 3-day opening ever. And if it breaks the franchise opening weekend record, it'll also break the April Opening Weekend Record (which the last film in the franchise holds).

I guess around 375K today. So high chances of missing that Potter 5 non-Demon Slayer FSS record.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Records In Sight For Detective Conan 2
Are there any more potential boosts left for Demon Slayer in Japan or will it be the slow grind to the milestone?

It's close enough now where letting it play out will get it to the ¥40 billion mark that the events and expansion back in March were intended to do.
