Post 17th Annual WoKJ Movie Awards - Apr 11 - Send Your Ballots!
It's Monday and you know what that means: the Oscar nominees are in and thus it is time to see if we here at the World of KJ can do better!

Thank you to the official band of the 17th Annualish WOKJ Movie Awards, Alien Ant Farm, for that live performance via Zoom (definitely not just an old one that I found)...

So what to expect this year? First of all, we're gonna roll back the exact same categories as last year. I know I've often advocated for new categories like Best Overall Performance, Best Animal Actor or Best Film Released Before Quarantine (for the lols), but I feel like things are hard enough this year without all that. Also, the poll results are in and sticking to the February 28th deadline has won with a count of 4-2. Democracy still works, even though that low vote count probably isn't a great sign of things to come.

You will be voting on these categories. Ten for Best Picture and Five for all the others.

Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actor
Best Supporting Actress
Best Acting Ensemble
Best Stunt Ensemble
Best Original Screenplay
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Animated Feature
Best Documentary
Best Foreign Language Film
Best Cinematography
Best Editing
Best Original Score
Best Original Song
Best Makeup
Best Visual Effects
Best Art Direction
Best Costume Design
Breakthrough of the Year (before or behind the camera)
Best Sound Design
Scariest Horror Film of the Year
Funniest Comedy of the Year

Easy enough right?

So a lot of you are gonna look at this list and say "there's no way I've seen enough films to properly fill it out." Well whose fault is that? 2020/21 definitely lacked the depth of a normal year, but the movies at the top are still equivilent to any other.

I'll stop casting blame and instead switch to encouragement - Vote Anyways! The volume of ballots is likely to be the lowest ever this year, so even if you only have three nominees in a category instead of five it will still make a difference. You alone could help a movie shine bright as the others fade because their fans were too timid to submit.

What do you think about that Alien Ant Farm?

"And even with the lights out we'll glow!" Damn right! Couldn't have summed up our relationship with film any better myself.

So go ahead and get your free trials for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Apple TV (I assume everyone on here is already subbed to Disney.) Use your stimi money to buy some flicks that aren't on there yet. Check the Cinemania and Everyone's A Critic forum for ideas, or venture out into the wild on your own. There's no wrong way to fill out a ballot (unless you're voting Den of Thieves for Best Picture instead of Mission Impossible Fallout.) Anything can happen and your favorite movie of the year has a good shot of being highlighted in the history books.

I'm gonna give you all almost a month to catch up. The deadline for ballots will be Saturday April 10. The nominations will be presented the next day and the ceremony will be held Saturday April 24th. We're still in the Quarantine Era though, so in the event that something important comes up, or I die from covid, then ... we'll figure it out.

I think that's all we need to know for now. Maybe? Ask any questions and I shall answer, we still have plenty of time to figure out any kinks (and there will be no kink shaming here.)

Play us out AAF!

Damn 17th. Cray.

I'll try and do my ballot by the end of the month.

I’d say that it and one other movie have equally promising chances.

Right? Million Dollar Baby was our first winner! Kind of shocking in retrospect since both Kill Bill 2 and Eternal Sunshine were (and still are) so popular around here.

I have a lot of catching up to do. I have seen only 4 films from last year (Judas and the Black Messiah, WW84, The Little Things, The Rhythm Section). What good films should I see to complete 2020?

I have a lot of films to catch-up on! Probably won't submit my ballot until right around the deadline.

Both of the lead actor categories are stacked this year, but I'm having trouble filling out supporting. My ballot thus far has a lot of "that person from ___" rather than real names. :hahaha:

All I have left on my list is:

Sound of Metal - sometime soon
Minari - when its cheaper
The Father - when its cheaper
Spontaneous - before my Epix trial runs out

Sorry, I haven't participated in the movie awards in about 10 years and barely saw anything last year

Sent in a ballot. I could have gone the "politically correct" way, but I was honest with myself and only went by movies I actually watched or had an impression on.

Cool.

Keep em coming.

But since I probably won’t finish mine until deadline day I will judge no one else for doing the same. :hahaha:

Probably midnight, but I doubt Flava'd would mind if someone's a little late. Might want to send a mass PM to the active users here this evening perhaps, too.

Ballot sent. :ninja:

well if there is a mass PM... then my ballot might as well be a filler. But who knows my vote on one of these films/actors might be break a tie...

Um let’s say Noon tomorrow. I’d like to get to 20 (7 so far) but would settle for less if necessary.

Nice mix so far. Some surprises alongside the obvious contenders. Will they hold?

Send it in! Noon was a soft deadline, I still only have ten and need more for tiebreaking purposes. For instance, there is a category where only a single movie has received more than one vote (and its not documentary, which has actually received a healthy amount). :hahaha:

Let's say new deadline is 4p EST (of NXT). I can't risk starting the ceremony any later or it might run into Wrestlemania.

Wait I would have thought documentary would have the lowest amount...

It usually does and sometimes we even drop it entirely.
