Re: Top Gun 2 predictions
I like Kilmer and hence follow him on FB. Judging by recent videos he's posted - he certainly is not in the required physical shape to be projected on to a cinema screen.
That said, they work wonders with CGI these days.

The Crimson Eagle, and Racing the Monsoon. The script kept going through issues so the trio made War of the Roses instead. And then I think it was the mid 90s they were ready but Turner's weight had gone out of control and Douglas dropped the project when they tried to recast Joan Wilder.

It's like the coolest looking unnecessary sequel of all time. Can't tell if I'm in or not.

Re: Top Gun 2 predictions
It should be good for $200m. Should get a solid over 35 crowd - the like who go and see Bond, Ford v Ferrari etc. I'm in that group.
It's a pure nostalgia trip and if its actually good - all the better.

Looks very good and well made. Why not.
Something tells me it'll gross less than $150m but I hope it does well.

Re: Top Gun 2 predictions
I mean it looks good and I hope it does well, but I'm honestly still not really seeing the appeal of it. I'd be very surprised if it did $150M let alone $200M even with Cruise coming off a high with MI: Fallout.

Did somebody bad mouth him. It's really had what has happened to him. I guess his role will just be a cameo.

Re: Top Gun 2 predictions
Interesting to see our thoughts per-pandemic on how TG2 would perform.

Re: Top Gun 2 predictions
Cruise has made so many films in his career that adjust to big totals but still surprising to see that TGM will possibly triple his biggest film of his career up until this point unadjusted.
He only saw 1/10 of his movies make $90M+ since 2006 outside the MI franchise with Edge of Tomorrow which just squeaked by $100M in a leading role.

Took awhile but it got there. That was all due to Tom's high wattage star power. His durability is incredible.

Re: Top Gun 2 predictions
If TGM makes over $633.5M, it will become the first $80M+ opener to ever achieve a 5X weekend to total multiplier. That's all the more staggering considering it opened on an inflated long weekend so probably would have gotten closer to a 6X multiplier on a regular weekend. Not only that for $50M+ OWs, it may have the best 3rd best multiplier of all time for a film that didn't benefit from the Dec. holidays for a better hold (Avatar, LOTR 2, LOTR 3, Jumanji 2). The only other non-Dec. $50M+ movies with better holds were SW Ep. 1 and ID4, but both had 5 day weekends so likely would have seen bigger 3day tallies and lower multipliers otherwise. Overall message, this is an unprecedented box office run!
