Things are getting complicated on The Simple Life.
An apparent rift between stars Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie has seemingly jeopardized the future of the Fox reality show.
Things are so bad between the longtime celebutante pals that, according to a report on Thursday's syndicated Insider, producers are considering replacing Richie with another party circuit regular,
Rod Stewart's daughter Kimberly.
"We're in the works with something very special," Stewart told The Insider.
With Hilton reportedly ready to be paired off with a new Simple Lifer, Richie would, per The Insider, get her own reality spinoff, a Newlyweds-esque endeavor focusing on her life with soon-to-be hubby Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM.
Fox suits aren't saying anything about the possible Simple Life shake-up--yet. However, the network issued a statement alluding to potential changes on the show.
"We are currently discussing internally the creative direction of the next season of The Simple Life," the network said.
"We are huge fans of both Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie and look forward to solidifying our plans for the next installment of this fantastic franchise in the very near future."
Richie's publicist declined comment on the report Thursday. Hilton's rep was not immediately available.
