Also, the Emmys like to do the opposite of the Globes, no? That's not good for "Mr. Robot". I suppose GoT is the frontrunner.

Globes like to live in their own world as far as TV goes. Even as diverse as the nominations are this year, the winners will likely still be fairly run of the mill. If you can call GoT winning Best Drama run of the mill.

 Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations
It is getting tiresome to see "Homeland", "House of Cards", "Downton Abbey" or "Modern Family" up there year after year after year, whereas "Jessica Jones" is snubbed, which is particularly inexplicable in the cases of Krysten Ritter and David Tennant and "The Americans" had to fight tooth and nail to get up there. HoC is getting up there on the prestige factor alone...

 Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations
Yes, it's still one of Showtime's top rated shows.
And for the record, this past season was great. It's more than deserving of being nominated.

I haven't been checking, but I do see stories on my Facebook feed. When will #EmmysSoWhite begin? I've not seen any black faces as the focus of stories yet.

 Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations
And yet plenty of black people were nominated, and several of them won (actor, supporting actor and supporting actress in a mini series, for example). And while he's not black, Rami Malek is literally one generation removed from being from Actual Africa. This isn't like the Oscars where non-whites just don't get any nominations, so I don't expect people to make a big fuss about it.
Also, so happy Tatiana Maslany finally won a well-deserved Emmy.

That doesn't change the fact that both the Emmy Awards and television in general are far more diverse/representative than the Oscars/film industry are.

 Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations
Jimmy Kimmel was an awful host, but the winners were mostly AMAZING!
Tatiana Maslany winning was the highlight of the night for me - so unexpected and deserved for years. And Rami Malek! I was actually predicting he would win but it was satisfying that he actually did. I was worried Spacey would.
Ben Mendelsohn winning for "Bloodline" was also a big surprise and well-deserved. The Maggie Smith win was lame. Comedy-wise Kate McKinnon gave what was probably the speech of the night and Julia Louis-Dreyfus deservingly won again. I have no idea what "Baskets" is.
"GoT" winning was expected but considering they submitted "Battle of the Bastards" I'm not surprised and I'd almost say it was deserved based on that episode.

 Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations
Mendelsohn winning for the second season of "Bloodline" of all things was RIDICULOUS and easily one of the night's worst wins.

 Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations
I did find it weird he won for the second season of the show, since he didn't do much, but I still can't be mad over that win (especially since I don't think the "GOT" folks were anything noteworthy this year either).

 Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations
If if you thought that (though Dinklage definitely deserved it again), there was also the wonderful Jonathan Banks who still cannot get his due and, well, Voight is always great in "Ray Donovan". Had Mendelsohn won for the first season, I would have been fine with that. He was damn powerful in it. But he was a non-factor in the second season.

I was going to say Maggie Smith wasn't even there to accept the award, but then Lena Headey wasn't there either. Seems like a lot of nominees weren't there.

Jonathan Banks is always fantastic but this was probably his worst recognized season so far. His nomination on Breaking Bad was exceptional, while last year's nominated episode was probably his finest yet. Not to mention he wasn't even nominated for my favorite Mike scene (his "half measures" monologue to Walter in Season 3 of Breaking Bad). But I don't remember any standout episode of Season 2 on Saul for him. It was Michael McKean's year honestly, and they snubbed him.

But the bit with the sandwiches was lame and almost shamefully stolen from Ellen during her Oscars gig. Only the kids from Stranger Things kind of saved it. But of all the late night hosts, he's probably my number one pick to host these things. Fallon and Corden would try too hard, Colbert wouldn't try hard enough, and Meyers is Meyers. His biggest problem is being forgettable. I won't remember anything about him hosting in a week and when he's inevitably chosen to host eventually, I'll groan at the choice. Maybe that's his strength: exceeding lowered expectations. And was it his idea to have Dennis Franz and Jimmy Smits present the last award? That was kind of genius in its utter randomness.

The sandwiches bit was awful and a complete waste of the "Stranger Things" kids.
I muted the TV when Corden and him did Carpool Karaoke, which will never be funny.
