Quote:
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (alternatively known as Batman vs Superman) is an upcoming American superhero film featuring the DC Comics characters Batman and Superman, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is a follow-up to the 2013 film Man of Steel and the second installment in the DC Extended Universe. The film is directed by Zack Snyder, with a screenplay written by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer. The film will star Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, and Gal Gadot. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be the first live-action film to feature both Batman and Superman, as well as the very first theatrical film to feature live-action portrayals of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash and Cyborg. In the film, Batman seeks to preemptively battle Superman after the destruction caused in Man of Steel.

The film was announced at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con International, after the release of Man of Steel. Snyder and Goyer were both brought back in June 2013. Snyder stated that the film would take inspiration from the Batman limited series The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, but that it would follow an original premise. It was also clarified that the incarnation of Batman in the film would not be related to the one in the previous Batman film trilogy. Pre-production began at East Los Angeles College in October 2013, with principal photography starting in May 2014 in Detroit, Michigan, with additional filming in Chicago, Illinois. Filming concluded in December 2014. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 25, 2016, in 2D, 3D, 4DX, IMAX 3D and premium large formats.

So I got to see Batman versus Superman tonight and I'm going to stay spoiler-free as Zack Snyder requested. In general my first impressions are that the film is entertaining but it is also longer than it needs to be. When the film began it captured my attention right away and held it for the first part but then there was a lull in the picture as there was a lot of back story to cover. During this period my attention was waning and I was actually getting tired but then another sequence occurred which brought back my attention level to where it initially began and the film stayed at that level to the end for the most part. So if I were to grade it now it would either be a low A to high B or for my grading purposes just a B. I will be watching this again on Thursday and that was my initial intention anyway. There are still things I would like to see again on a second viewing.

That's not all. Batman is an intense SOB. But man Nolan messed me up good with that Batman theme. Every time he chased someone I expected it.

Exactly how I felt about Man of Steel!

Did you enjoy it more or less than MoS?

I was so enthralled with what I was seeing on the screen, I didn't notice too many lulls in the first half, but have noticed some noting the same. It did feel about 20+ minutes longer than Man of Steel, but it's less than 10 minutes longer.

But, I assume this was the case with your showing, the biggest cheer in the film was for Wonder Woman. And it's not close.

One of the main things that caught me off guard? The first half has some really funny moments, and Alfred is funny throughout.

Also, the first "nightmare" Bruce has is scary as shit.

Chippy's review is reasonable. Can't wait to read Excel's "BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER! FUCK YOU MARVEL! BATFLECK IS AMAZING! SO THOUGHT PROVOKING AND DARK! EISENBERG IS AMAZING! SO COMPLEX! EASILY AS GREAT AS THE DARK KNIGHT! WORD OF MOUTH WILL BE THE BEST EVER. 300M OW! 2BILLION DOMESTIC TOTAL!"

I went through a wide range of emotions throughout the film, and after. From excitement to sadness to emptiness to omgness. There's an insane amount of movie to digest. But so far, I don't have any large issues with the film.

It is a mess. I liked the first 90-120 minutes well enough, but oh God, the finale...Snyder learned NOTHING from Man of Steel, jeez.

The emotional climax hinging on Superman dying (oh, spoiler alert!) doesn't work at all because you know well enough that he'll not actually be dead, it is fucking Superman and Justice League is still coming.

Doomsday is a terrible villain in this.

Also:

1. Why the fuck is Bruce Wayne having prophetic dreams?
2. Why does Lex Luthor have symbols of all superheroes in his files? Did he give them their own symbols?!

But Ben Affleck was really good and I liked Eisenberg's approach to the part, though some will hate it. The CGI overload in the finale was terrible.

Best scene: Amy Adams in a bathtub. They should have 30 minutes more of that in the R-rated Director's Cut.

I 1000% disagree about Doomsday. I thought that final fight was incredible and SO MUCH better than I expected.

I think the Smallville fight was better, and it didn't have a ton of substance. It wasn't all bad.
